If Norton shows in control panel then download Revo Unlnstaller http://www.revouninstaller.com/ Simple to use and very effective.
Do you think that will get around the losing Internet problem?

Never had any problems when using Revo0 -
Well I've run that, but not re-started the computer yet so not sure if I will be able to (a) install Kaspersky if I don't re-start or (b) get an Internet connection if I do re-start. Tried Kaspersky prior to running the uninstaller and it still said Norton 360 was blocking it, and still Control Panel showed it in the list but said file not found when I tried to delete it from there .
Was a bit nervous while it sorted out the registry, only selected one thing that didn't specifically say Norton - it was Sym setup or something like that, anyway I assumed it was Symantec.
Off to try Kaspersky again. Hope I can get back one way or another.

Well that was a waste of two hours. Was going well until it came to activating Kaspersky, when got error message Server name cannot be resolved. It seems that although my Freeserve connection was still showing as running (connection time still incrementing minutes) I was not actually connected.
Tried all sorts - got recurring message on trying to establish internet connection "Checking network protocol connections: TCP/IP CP reported error 31: A device attached to the system is not functioning. I have neither attached or detached any devices, and had two green lights on my modem, also login gets as far as "Registering your computer on the network" before error messaging and freezing.
So eventually I had to system restore to before I ran the Norton removal thing, as it was the only way to get back online. So Norton's back, Kaspersky's gone again, in fact no progress at all.
Oh and now when I boot up I get a box in the middle of the screen saying Windows Installer Please wait while Windows configures ccCommon, whatever that is.
I feel a trip to PC World coming on, and I might just end up with a new computer
. And no way am I buying one with 3 months free Norton pre-installed like this one had!

Dogmaryxx can I ask you about Revo? You know when you tell it what you want uninstalled, and it runs through the process then says it is checking for remaining files? Well it lists a whole load of folders and subfolders that are just coded numerics and letters, no indication of what they are. Some of them are in bold type, and it says to check those carefully, but there's not much point if I don't know what they are. Anyway I didn't select any for deletion, but maybe I should have selected and deleted the bolded ones? Perhaps the bold was its way of telling me those are the ones that need deleting?

You should use the Symantic removal tool linked in post#3, reboot the machine and then install Kaspersky. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
I did use that in the first instance, but it disabled me from getting onto the Internet so I had to do system restore, which made Norton come back. I seem to be stuf£ed, everything I try goes pearshaped.

Did you reboot the system after the uninstall? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Yes, and that's when it wouldn't connect to my ISP. Error 720, over and over again.

Well you need to investigate that problem then and not keep restoring back to an out of date anti-virus program. One step at a time! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
