I think that I will switch away from Scottish Power. All I've had from them is the email in August telling me that if I do nothing, I'll be on the Sep 2010 capped tariff. With their new Sep 2011 coming out, I would have thought that I would have had some contact from them advising me of the new tariff that is available to me.
I think that this is the usual British company trick of failing to do the best for existing customers, and concentrating on getting in new customers. If I switch to OVO, then I'll save about £60 a year compared to Scottish Power. And that is not including any cashback.
I'm away this weekend, so I'll make my final decision next week.
Just one point that someone might be able to help with is this: I have read that clicking on the "opting out" link on the SP email appears to have failed in the past. Has this been repaired yet, or do I have to go through the process of calling SP or getting Craig to sort it out? I would have thought that by now, the click would work.0 -
I think clicking on the link does work, but initially they were drowned in people looking to switch post August 31st; as such it was worth an email asking for confirmation that the change has been made.0

Thanks for tip about how long it takes to change, I've just swapped on SP's standard rate while I decide what to do next.
I asked about new rates and there are two - that are NOT currently on the website but will be by the end of the week. They don't have prices available on the phone yet either - weird!
The first was fixed until 2011 (Sept I think but didn't make a note and can't remember) and you pay £2 a month premium and apparently the prices are the same as the online energy capped rate that is just ending.
The second is fixed until July 2011 and it 4% discounted. There is no monthly premium but prices will track the standard and therefore can go up and down.
I'm not sure what to do to be honest - might wait and check these new deals out before making up my mind. Though I'm annoyed that SP keep trying to put my DD up. This time I am £124 in credit and they want to increase my DD by £6! Whenever we go into debit we pay it off instantly so we can keep the DD the same so it bugs me that they insist on increasing - then put it back down when I give them grief! Why not just put a note on my account?! grrrr0 -
I love :money:and this site!
I took the advice as my E.on fixed rate to 1st October was coming to an end and I checked out the alternatives on USwitch. Armed with that I rang E.on.
Be warned you procrastinators they would have upped my direct debit by £18 a month on my dueal fuel had I done nothing. The standard duel fuel fixed monthly direct debit alternative they offered over the phone would still have been and extra £10.33 a month. Naughty, naughty E.on - "So what about this other deal I can see online for you" I asked and it seems that the telephone staff aren't authorised to tell you about them but you can still switch to them on your online account with them!
I don't like being taken for a fool so Tesco clubcard points or not I took the plunge for a change which based on my pre-1st October rate saved me £355 so add the £120 extra the best rate with E.on would have got me there's my £475 saving :rotfl:The icing on the cake is the case of wine, the prospect of getting a smart meter installed with my new provider First Utility and a refund of some of the £230+ credit I have with E.on :j
I cancelled my direct debit with both my bank and E.on immediately so I wouldn't get bank charges for E.on rerequests so hope to save another £147 due early October and I asked E.on to change me to their standard rate for the period of the 28 days notice to change supplier so I don't get caught out with early change penalties from 1st October - what a clever girl I am:T

My cheapest seems to be EDF, but to my disappointment, the comparision websites haven't got an agreement to move to this company, so I can't get a freebee, but hey - suppose we can call these companies direct to sort it.
I think if you ring customer services up with details of the tariff you've found details of (for e.g the new Online Version 3 or whatever) and they should be able to fill in a contract for you to go onto that tariff or at least put you onto the standard tariff until your accounts are activated and then put you on the correct tariff.0 -
Can anybody tell me when comparing Energy Suppliers which gives you the most accurate result / quote. IE entering the KWh or the amount of money you have paid over a year, The reason I ask is when I’ve done both the difference is as much as 30%
Also at what point before the contract ends would you start the process to move supplier on average 1 week - 1 month

I've been congratulating myself for being on the Brit Gas Dual Fuel Price Protection 2010 but it is coming to an end in April. I feel really chuffed that I've saved well over a £1000 over the past 4 and a bit years. :j
In our 3 bed flat with 2 adults and a teenager and heavy weekend use with other family staying, we use about 10% more than the Brit Gas average user who is supposed to use 20,500 Kwh gas and 3300Kwh electric per year.
Uswitch tells me that the latest British Gas Tariff with the new 7% reduction costs about 8% more than the PP2010 deal I'm on - has anyone any insights into the reactions of the other companies to the British Gas reduction, are they likely to bring in their own cheaper rates soon? Is there any chance of getting another long term deal?0 -
I am with E-ON on a capped tariff until March 2012,Duel fuel, No penalty if I switch, but quite frankly why bother as any other tariff will probably be no cheaper.0
