GLKing, what's your best price so far?
Have you seen this article?
What time of day would you be travelling?0 -
We want to arrive at Blackpool at about 2pm on the 15th and leave to come home on the 17th at about the same time, would it be cheaper to fly? Could I fly Newcastle to Blackpool and back with no passport, just provisional driving licence?0

If you are the pilot, take some strong tape to stick your 'L' plates on.0 -
Are the Newcastle and Blackpool you are thinking of both in England? If so, you dont need a passport.
If you are not the pilot I dont think you need any licence - provisional or otherwise.

'Fraid you've totally missed the point, keithp
Most airlines (on security grounds) insist you have a photo id - normally passport or driving licence, but other forms are soemtimes accepted. Doesn't normally matter if it's provisional or not.
Ask your airline what they will accept. They are all different.0 -

There are no direct flights from Newcastle to Blackpool. In fact you'd probably have to go via Dublin or the Isle of Man. It would be both slower and more expensive than the train.
Saver return on train, £64.50 (cheaper if you have a railcard)
You could go by coach - £39 each. The bad news - it takes 8 hours with a change in Manchester and you can't get to Blackpool before 2pm.0 -
I travel at least once a week ,sometimes more, from Chester to the south east and always thru Euston. Try as I may,no matter how far ahead I book Ive never been able to obtain anything better than a saver fare on this route, typically £46 single with my railcard. I use the Train line site exclusively as they are distinctly cheaper than national rail enquiries, why is this? What bugs me is that the £13 fares advertised simply arnt there. Why?0

Adrian, welcome to the forums.
You don't say where in the SouthEast you go to, but I have found return ticket from Chester to Euston at £17.85.
A few qualifications -
Its two Value Advance Singles
This is for an outward journey on 27 March dep Chester at 11:00.
Return on 03 April dep Euston 11:28
Using a Senior Railcard.
These fares found using National Rail Enquiries website.
Other dates and times are available.
Could it be that you are not booking far enough ahead?
NRE do not sell tickets, so they cannot be more expensive than anyone.
The TrainLine are more expensive than most other ticket vendors because they charge for credit card bookings and posting tickets.0 -
Could also be trying too far ahead - if the cheap fares haven't been released all you will get offered are normal and saver tickets.
It could also be worth trying from Crewe - there may be a bigger allocation of tickets from there.0 -
