    Hi all,

Thought you might be interested in the response from First Capital Connect:

    Dear Ms Henry

Thank you for your email of 28 December 2007, regarding the cost of season tickets for your commute from Cuffley to London Victoria. I can confirm that if you purchase your ticket to Winchmore Hill a Travelcard valid for zones 1-4 would be valid.

    Hi
Will be booking advance rail tickets for March shortly, currently looking at getting a good deal. However I seem to remember in December seeing on Pigsback that they had a link to first great western website for pigsback points or something. I can't seem to find it now, wondering if I dreamt it?
    Can anyone shed any light?

Leeds to London - http://www.nationalexpresseastcoast.com/ Book in advance for cheaper fares

London to Cambridge - buy at the station. There are no discounts unless you count cheap day returns and the like.

If you actually want to go from Leeds to Cambridge and have no reason to visit London on the way - don't. Use National Express East Coast to get to Peterborough (or even Stevenage) and change there for Cambridge. They will offer through fares, probably cheaper than splitting but it's worth a check.

I'm thinking of going for a three day break in London in the next couple of weeks or so without it costing a fortune, travelling by rail from Blackpool North. Could anyone give me some tips on cheapest tickets and best days to travel.

    Cheers.

Not quite correct. There are two train companies that run services from London to Cambridge, First Capital Connect from Kings Cross and One from Liverpool Street.

Although they are the same price for peak fares (£24.10), for off peak fares One is cheaper than FCC as their services are slower (One is £14, FCC £18.50). However One also do advance purchase online digital tickets.at £6 each way - http://www.mobitix.thetrainline.com/ONE/advancePurchase.aspx

The majority of the journey will be using Virgin. The route will be Blackpool to Preston and then to Euston. Have a look at Virgin's website for advance purchase tickets from Preston to London, currently they are available for as little as £16.50 each way (or £36 first class) and then buy a Blackpool to Preston ticket at £6 each way separately. So you could do it for a total of £45 return.

Alternatively Virgin as selling some online tickets from Manchester to London for as little as £1 - http://www.mobitix.thetrainline.com/VT/advancepurchase.aspx
Add on a Blackpool to Manchester ticket at £14.10 return and you could actually do it for as little as £16.10 return if you were lucky.

Curiously there seems to be a £34 advance purchase single from Blackpool through to London changing at Preston - but no standard class ones. Very odd.
