Rail Travel: Tips on Cheap Tickets

Hello
My husband and I are planning on visiting friends on the Isle of Wiht on Easter Weekend 21/3 - 24/3.
Can anyone recommend the best way to do this - splitting the journey, mega train etc.
We won't fly as we're trying to keep our carbon footprint to a minimum this year.
Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks in advance.
Best regards

Sorry, on previous post typo - it should read Isle of Wight.
Thanks

oops - only properly read the second post which had a different title!!! Never mind.
Train (some with no changes) from Manchester to Southampton using advance purchase singles would my first guess, then ferry. Or change at Southampton for a train to Portsmouth and ferry from there. Or stay on the train to Brockenhurst where you change for Lymington and yet another ferry. Depends on where in the Isle you want to be.
Advance singles to Lymington Pier or Portsmouth start at £16 - to Southampton £15. As that's Easter weekend availability (when released - not yet) could be poor, and engineering work disrupt the services......
Megatrain isn't much help - unless you travel via London0 -
I'm trying to book a month in advance for some tickets from Nottingham to Sheffield, for some reason there are no cheap advance tickets...? Can anyone shed some light, I don't understand, before I used to get tickets for around £6 if booked in advance...Stuff Happens As Wave of Ambiguity Spreads:cool:0

found a fare, some type of mistake...it is on feb 13,but it takes -4.21?????
any help?0 -
First tip is...
do not use trainline
they charge extra for credit card and extra to post, and probably other extras too.
Glasgow to Liverpool can be done on that date for £15.50 each using Value Advance C single tickets. Maybe you can get it cheaper by splitting, so give it a try.

They would appear to be none any more - they are not in the list of possible fares, let alone available0
