Rail Travel: Tips on Cheap Tickets

Hi any help much appreciated. 19yo going Glasgow to London Euston, 11th June returning 14th June, cheapest I can get is £94 or £81 if I get her a railcard. Friend is returning with her with a single price Euston - Glasgow for £65.
Thanks0 -
Outwards £37 (before railcard discount) is available on some trains. Return £47.50 ditto.
If you widen the search to Kings Cross there are a few more possibilities at £47 for the return which booked on the East Coast site would attract a 10% (I think) discount0 -
Anyone know of any deals / ticket splits for 3 adults, possibly 4, travelling London Kings X to Leeds on the 22nd July, from 18:00 onwards, returning on 24th July, from 14:00 onwards.

Look on the east coast website and select groupsave 3 for probably your best deal.. Though you could try splitting @ Doncasterone of the famous 50 -
I'm looking to travel from Peterborough to London KX on 15th July on the very first or thereabouts trains.
FCC leave at 03:25, 4:12, 5:10 ,5:40 and 06:10
Can anyone tell me why the first 4 trains are still at the Standard walk up fare of ANYTIME Day single £27.50?
The 06:10 train is cheapest at £10.50 with the ADVANCE single fare.
Its 9 weeks to go to the day so I'd have thought those earlier trains would be as cheap!
Have I missed the cheapest fares for those earlier trains?

Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere, but cheap first class tickets on the East Coast route seem to be on offer for those who download a voucher from the This is My Edinburgh website. For details see links on
http://www.eastcoast.co.uk/This_is_my_Edinburgh
The promotional blurb says tickets 'between London and Edinburgh' but the T&Cs themselves don't specify Edinburgh to London exclusively and the website link to the booking engine seems to allow you to book Reader Offer fares anywhere along the route, e.g. London to York, London to Newcastle, etc.
I'd like to book a London to Newcastle return using this.
Does anyone know if this is just a booking engine glitch or would such a ticket anywhere on the route (i.e. not just to/from Edinburgh) be valid, assuming you have the downloaded voucher?

No you haven't missed them - they have never existed.
Reason is that they are operated by FCC who being a London suburban service do not offer cheap advance fares. They do have a cheaper anytime fare than East Coast though
The ones with the cheap advance fares are operated by East Coast - a long distance company - who do have such fares. The 0610 is their train BTW
Incidentally if you book on East Coast's site you may get a discount on the advance fares0 -

It looks above board as it is an East coast trains product anyway.. Best to check by giving their telesales team a ring though first before you bookone of the famous 50 -
Having missed a £10 each way apex last week for Littlehampton to Liverpool. I was forced to trawl the internet for deals. The best was £90 return with cheaptrains.com......rubbish !
Then I tried Rail network........£65 (return).
I had an idea !
Checked Southern Rail - my local provider. Single to Liverpool £10 !!!!!
Then, return journey I tried Virgin - £25 (including reserved seats @ no extra cost !)
There is no booking fee - if you pick up your tickets from the station.
You have to travel off-peak and on strictly designated times.
Breaking your journey and booking part-journey tickets can save you even more money.
Thank you Martin for giving me the idea to search.
For 30 minutes work you can save tens or hundreds of pounds.
Don't just believe the web hype from - supposedly - cheap deal sites.0
