Hi Folks,
Looking to travel Glasgow Central to a London Terminal on Friday 20 May (a one way trip)
Ideally looking to arrive in the window 1500-1800 - although nearer to 1600 the better.
Pretty much pulled Virgin (advanced) and East Coast to bits already but only based on Single direct ticket.
Are there any stand-out split points on these routes i should be looking at. Travel via West Coast Main Line probably preferably in terms of economy of time.
Always appreciate the knowledge shared on here!
WIth thanks

Well the 1140 from Glasgow (arr 1603) only stops at Carlisle, Penrith and Preston so those are the places to try
If you are prepared for a longer journey, Birmingham may be worth a try but if speed is of the essence there's not much choice. Or changing to London Midland at Crewe - again slow.
There is an advance single at £57.00 showing up on the 1045 or 1150 to Kings Cross - possibly discounted on the East Coast site. That may well be the best you'll get for a reasonably fast journey0 -

Just to add to the advice dzug gave, you could try splitting at Manchester Pic and get some advance singles. Just make sure you give yourself plenty of time to make your connection at Manchester and as these will be advance singles you must travel on booked trains.
Just had a quick look and the price is around the same as quote by dzug, but going via Manchester might be quicker.Whoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -

Another option would be Megabus and take the coach from Glasgow Buchanan St to London Victoria Coach station.
Dep 08:30 arr 17:30 £22 but takes 9hrsWhoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -

Not worth it. There are no direct trains IIRC from Glasgow to manchester piccadilly so would have to change 2 twice and thus split at preston and Manchester.
EDIT: Just checked and TPE do a direct service but it looks like 1tp2h and takes an age.one of the famous 50 -

Glad you found the TPE service from Glasgow Cen to Manchester Pic, it's not that slow a service (15min approx slower to Preston), however, it does take you off the main lines until you get to Manchester. But to be fair it's just as slow as going via Edinburgh (both take just under 6 hours)
To be honest it's just another option for thefatcontroller to consider.Whoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0
