Damn, I'd rather pay extra than go on a bus. Is there a non london ticket without buses? (Sorry, I don't eally understand route closures etc)
I would guess this is due to the multi-million pound upgrade of Reading station by Network Rail. I believe there is significant disruption on routes through there over the festive period.

Readfing at that time only has buses - no trains at all
  • Hi

I travel to Horsham (via Kings Cross, Then St Pancras to Three Bridges then Horsham) from York each Tuesday and return on a Friday.

I buy an advanced ticket and pay £36.95 or £41.85 depending on the train I take and the time I book in advance.

HOWEVER - If I book with 2 other adults I get 1 third off the fair.

What I am looking for is to team up with a couple of people who do the York to Kings Cross Tuesday (I usually get the 08:11) and Kings Cross to York Friday (anything between 18:00 - 20:30) to obtain the extra 33% discount.

I have run through the booking process on the Eastcoast website and the offer is not restricted so any ticket gets the discount.

Not sure how I will get / give contact details but I'm sure someone will think of something that does not require us to post email addresses.

Hope to hear from a few fellow travellers
  • Hi there,

New to this forum but hope you can help me out?

I found out recently that a Saver Return ticket includes travel on the London underground - one trip out, one back. I always used to buy a travelcard until I found this out.

This new Super Saver ticket, does it include the same underground travel as the Saver, or will I need to pay for that separately?

    Thanks.

There's no such thing as a saver return - they were abolished/renamed some time back. I assume you mean off peak return.

It doesn't normally include travel on the underground - unless you buy it to zone 1 rather than London terminals. Usually £3 extra each way on the London terminals fare, so a travelcard is cheaper for a day trip (£5.60)

    Superoffpeak return - same principle.

From some stations you can buy an inclusive all zone travelcard - depending on the pricing policy of the train company that you are using that can be cheaper still. There isn't always a superoffpeak version of this.

Virgin offer a Super Off Peak Day Return from stations in the North West to London on Saturdays only which includes a Travelcard at £32.40.

Is that what you are talking about?

Has been discussed at length on another thread from post #1353 onwards.

Some more info about it here.

  • It's the Off Peak return that includes one underground journey out and one back. I checked this yesterday when I bought my Super Off Peak Railcard.

The SOPR does not include the underground journey, hence buying the Railcard.

Your post would be more useful if you said WHAT journey this applies to - as a generalisation it's simply not true and could be seriously misleading on many routes.

Railcard or Travelcard?. If it's a Railcard then please let us know how much it costs and where you bought it from.
Whoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view
