    Hi

I'm travelling down to Laandan from Newcastle on Dec 28th for the football (vs Spurs) and I'm looking for a cheap return train ticket. The cheapest I've found so far is £104ish return and that is to White Hart Lane station via Kings Cross (I think). There are 3 adults going and I've suggested splitting the journey abit up rather than going direct but it hasn't gone down as well as I originally thought it would as 1 would rather pay the extra and get there direct rather than potentially miss a connecting train.

Don't have access to my pc at the minute so can only get on here thru my phone so would appreciate a pm if possible although I'll still try and check for replies. Kick off is 3pm but were gonna be in one of the boxes (it was a competition at my FILTB's work) so will probably be looking to leave Newcastle around 8am as we'll need to be there early for the grub :)

P.S My mate said we wouldn't find it cheaper than £104 anywhere else so I took that as a challenge! :D

Well a quick look suggests your mate is right. What you've got is a walkon fare valid out and back on any train that day.

Splitting (at York or Peterborough, the obvious points) on the same ticket type is more expensive. Advance singles add up to more than the return fare, both as through tickets and using the same splits. And Metro to Sunderland then Grand Central would be cheaper but you can't get back after the match until next day

There may be something obscure there but I can't think what it is.

An off peak return route not London at £97.30 is the cheapest I can find easily. Advance tickets and the obvious splits come out to more.

Or National Express coach at roughly £50 return

If you buy from the East Coast website you can get a 10% discount on their Advance tickets, which means you can do the journey for £81.90 if you are willing to leave on an earlier train there and back on a later train.

Newcastle to White Hart Lane dep 06:00 arr 09:57 Advance single £40.95
White Hart Lane to Newcastle dep 20:10 arr 00:41 Advance single £40.95

I checked the website but it's saying there aren't any fares available :(

Just checked the East Coast website and those fares are still available. Perhaps the reservation system was down when you checked, have another try.

Sorry...my mistake! I was trying to go from the Metro Station which I think is Gateshead rather than Central Station which is in Newcastle. £140ish each way for 3 adults works out like you said. Thanks!! :) I'll let them know :)

  • A quick question a little out of context to the title of this thread but rail related.

The other day i popped into the station to purchase a single from nottingham to london and a single back as they were relatively cheap. But on chatting to the bloke behind the counter he did me a super off peak instead as with these times of snow i may not have got back on the intended train. It was only £2 more so i was happy. A return to london £33... good times (HM Railcard ;))

But the train I wanted to get on AND have a seat reservation for is the 0928 arriving in London at 1113. The return journey from St Pancras is on the 1615 arriving 1759. (Date of departure 30/12, hopeful date of departure back 31/12)

On reading the terms for a super off peak on east midlands trains it says they are only generally available as stated below:

    Super Off-peak
    • Not valid on weekdays before 10am
    • Not valid early evening (between 4pm to 6pm) from major cities
Now, you can still book super off peak tickets on most trains all day going to and leaving St Pancras from Nottingham on the 31st and the following days. Is my ticket still valid then? As I am travelling within the times stated above. And if I do have to return a day or 2 later due to the snow then I would need definite clarification on the times I would be allowed to travel.

    Any help greatfully appreciated. Thanks!!

Super Off Peak Returns are valid on all trains over the period you are interested in... up to and including all trains on Monday 3 January.

Any journey planner will tell you which trains are valid after 3 Jan.
