Rail Travel: Tips on Cheap Tickets

No you won't be OK - you'll have to buy a full price single ticket.
Only possible exception is if the 1730 doesn't run for any reason.
Don't know how cheap the promo is but if it's cheap enough it might be worth buying it for the outward journey and getting an advance single for the return. Otherwise an off peak return?
Looks like I'll just Standard Class it on the return leg on my own which is £40.65 (off-peak) instead of the £27.00 it would have to travel First Class. All my mates bought their tickets a couple of days ago when the promo for First Class travel was still available on the 1830 train back up here. :undecided
Cheers, mate.0 -

If you really want you can upgrade to first on board for £15 if there's space available0 -

i want to go with my sisters and friends so there are 5 of us and because of work commitments we can only go either a thursday or a sunday - any sunday or thursday from now til christmas. we would like to go earlyish in the morning and get an open return. can any one see if they can get it cheaper than £30 inc underground?
i know you must think me a cheap skate but i am paying for everyone to go and my pockets are not huge :-) take care julie0 -

Maybe a Groupsave ticket from London Midland might helpWhoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -

I've just had a quick look and can do the journey with advance singles for £40**, but better value would be the Super Off Peak Return for £47.80 as it gives you more train time options.
** Price only available from East Midland Website
Edit: you can get a bit of a saving on the Super Off peak fare £3ish by splitting at Bedford
completely forgot about this, thanks, I went for the £47.80 as it was easier!:beer:0 -
Hi,
Just a question about train tickets. Will be greatful if anyone can answer this for me
I am looking to travel from Glasgow to London. Virgin trains goes from Glasgow Central to London Euston. I understand train tickets are normally released about 12 weeks in advance. I have been looking at the 2nd weekend in Feb which has just been released.
I can find the cheapest adv single going down on the fri the 11th (£17.50) but when I look for return tickets from London Euston to Glasgow Central on sunday 13th of Feb the cheapest I can find is about £30.
I was wondering why I cannot find any fares at £17.50? I have heard that sometimes weekend train tickets are released after the weekday tickets? Possibly due to engineering work?
thanks for your help0 -

In other words, if they can fill a train without offering the cheaper tickets, why offer the cheaper tickets?
Sunday is a very popular travel day. I bet those trains will be packed.0 -
ah that makes sense.
I just thought they had to release 'so many' advance tickets for each day.0
