What on earth is 'super off-peak return', i just booked one of these birmingham to euston for next weekend, it said return within one month and that i could only travel on certain times, fair enough but i figured since it was letting me go on saturday on the hour there had to be one coming back on the sunday at some point. However i can't find one train coming back on the sunday! Only ones seem to be on saturdays...how can saturday be super off peak but not sunday? Mad..anyway i stupidly booked it already so i'll have to buy another ticket to get home.

There are two Super Off Peak tickets between Birmingham and London.

If you are going to Euston (London Midland only) you have this one:
OPR - SUPER OFFPEAK R LMR
    00042 - LDN MIDLAND ONLY

    1 Adult @£ 17.50 = £ 17.50
    __________
    £ 17.50

    Standard Class Return
    From : 0418 BIRMINGHAM STNS
    To : 1072 LONDON TERMINALS

    Restriction : LK
    MONDAYS to FRIDAYS:

Not valid for travel on London
    Midland services timed to
    ARRIVE London Terminals before
    1300.

    Not valid for travel on
    northbound London Midland
    services timed to DEPART
    London Terminals or any other
    station, before 1030.

Not valid for travel on London
    Midland services timed to
    DEPART any station between
    1630 and 1930 in either
    direction (except for the 1829
    London Euston to Crewe service
    ) unless a connecting
    service is being used to
complete a journey begun at a
    valid time.

    SATURDAYS, SUNDAYS and BANK
    HOLIDAYS:
    By any London Midland train.
If you are going to Marylebone you can get this one (it's usually quicker!, valid via High Wycombe only)
OPR - SUPER OFFPEAK R NCH
    00305 - HIGH WYCOMBE

    1 Adult @£ 19.50 = £ 19.50
    __________
    £ 19.50

    Standard Class Return
    From : 0418 BIRMINGHAM STNS
    To : 1072 LONDON TERMINALS

    Restriction : PV
    JOURNEYS TO/VIA LONDON
    MARYLEBONE OR PADDINGTON

    OUTWARD TRAVEL
    MONDAY TO FRIDAY

    By any train except those
    timed to arrive at London
    Terminals before 1300.

    SATURDAYS, SUNDAYS AND BANK
    HOLIDAYS.

    By any train.

    RETURN TRAVEL
    MONDAY TO FRIDAY

    By any train from London
    Terminals timed to depart from
    1030 to 1559, and from 2000.

    SATURDAYS, SUNDAYS AND BANK
    HOLIDAYS.

    By any train.
The High Wycombe ticket can be excessed for the return portion to return on Virgin Trains for half the difference in price (£41.90 - £19.50 ) / 2 = £11.20 excess.

The London Midland only ticket cannot be excessed, if you return on Virgin you need to buy a new ticket (£41.90!)

Both tickets are valid ON ANY TRAIN returning on Sunday. There is always a way back on a Sunday but on some occasions there may not be a direct train and there may be a replacement bus for some of the way. What date are you travelling?
  • Now if you altered your timing you may get it cheaper - even cheaper still if you went with Grand Central to York and changed there for a train berwick.

Thank you for the tip on Grand Central Train service just checked the cost for getting the train at peak time and its a lot cheaper than that of East Coast. Thank you very much for your help.

Has anyone been able to actual get any of these tickets? I am trying to arrange for 2 adults and 3 children to travel to London for a couple of days in July. Received the special offer flyer today from school and yet the site seems to show no availability for any of the trains that I am trying to get. Anybody know of tricks or a search technique? ???

Chiltern have not released their cheap tickets for that weekend yet. See here.

London Midland are offering tickets at £7.00 on trains leaving Euston at 20:10, 21:10 and 21:30 for New Street.

    Info from Southern Railway.

Many thanks for that info, really appreciate it but I just cant see the £7.00 tkts you mention for return to New Street from Euston at those times ?

Cheapest I can see on Southern Railway site is £28 for an Advanced Single.

Did you definitely search for Sat 15th Jan ?

    Oops... sorry... my mistake.

Yes I was looking at 15 Jan, but I was looking at Birmingham to London... wrong way.
    My apologies. :o

Yes, I too can see nothing cheaper than £28.00.

    How about National Express Coaches?
From London Victoria to Birmingham, leaving at 8pm, 9pm, 9:30pm and later. £17.00.

Or wait for Chiltern to release their cheap tickets.

Chiltern's walkon single is £19.40** 2000, 2050 and 2200 from Marylebone. Their advance tickets start at £5 on some trains when released.

** may go up in January
