    Thanks for your help so far - older daughter was 16 when I bought the card, so we will have to travel as 2 adults plus a cjild

    Thats a shame, but have a look at East Coast Website, as a 10% discount is better than nothing and don't leave it to late to book at those fares.

    One thing to add if you travel with Virgin is some non-table seats don't really have a view out of the window, so if you do want a view you're best asking ticking the box for a table seat.
  • What's the best time to book advance tickets, I mean how far in advance, been looking at trains for late oct early nov in the same way I got me previous cheap fares but they coming in at £80 each way.

    The cheap tickets have been released, but if you want really cheap then book via the East Coast Website and travel on their trains and get a 10% discount on the Advance single fare.

    This might help as well, if your daughter was 15 when you bought your family and friends railcard then she entitled to travel on a child ticket with the railcard, see t&c's here, thanx to Dzug1 for the info

    With this info then try this;
    Glasgow Central to London Kings cross 18th 06.50 or 07.50 £13.50 1x adult 2xchild & Railcard
    London Kings Cross to Glasgow Central 21st 09.00 or 11.00 £19.05 1x adult 2xchild & Railcard

    Total Return £32.55

    Thanks for this.I just got 4 return tickets from Doncaster to London King's Cross for £71.90.You have saved me a fortune:T

    ps using 2 senior rail cards the cost was £6.50 each way.The other 2 were adult fares.
  • Hiya,

    Bit of help required. Looking for tickets from Glasgow to London 10/09 and return 12/09. Nothing much seems to be cheaper than an open return at £108. I had a look at splitting tickets at Preston which dramatically brought down the price (£17 return from GLC>PRESTON) but when I then did Preston>London the price jumped way up. Are all the advance tickets gone? Friday would ideally leave 9am onwards/arrive before 6pm and Sunday can be anytime but later would probably be more suitable. This is for one adult who doesn't qualify for rail card.

    Cheers for any info.

    You are wanting to travel at 'peak' times on popular days.

    On your dates and times (almost), using Advance Singles, without splitting, it can be done for £47.50, out and £45.00 back.
    Total = £92.50.
    A saving of £15.90 off the Off Peak Return fare.

    Info from East Coast Trains.
