Looking at East Coast, you do get 10% off advance (as mentioned before) when you book with them...
Friday 8th October, direct:
1405 Newcastle to 1728 Kings Cross
1455 Newcastle to 1804 Kings Cross
1530 Newcastle to 1828 Kings Cross (quickest time)
1555 Newcastle to 1919 Kings Cross
£59.60 (2 adults) - £29.80 each
Tuesday 12th October direct:
0830 Kings Cross to 1141 Newcastle
1130 Kings Cross to 1446 Newcastle
£35.60 (2 adults) - £17.80 each
Railcard savings on top of this (be a third off the above) might also make it worthwhile getting one
As for split ticket routes, some people tend to go for Peterborough as their preferred changeover point as then you have options with First Capital Connect and Grand Central for the bit to London.0 -
HI guys, looking at the cheapest way to get from Cleethorpes to inverness on the 3rd of September with a return on the 12th September. Adult single no discount cards.

Try splitting at Doncaster first and maybe also Newcastle and Edinburgh. What's the best you've found so far?0 -

Just to add to what hopefulfooluk stated, try looking on the East Coast website as you could get a 10% online discount for advance singles on that journey.

You may not need to split - through advance singles are the first thing to try - then compare them with what you can get splitting, and with an off peak walkon return.0 -

Do you particularly have to go to Euston?
Birmingham Moor Street (or Snow Hill) to Marylebone can be done for £10.00... thats total for bothof you.
Dep Moor Street 10:15, arr Marylebone 12:31. Advance Single = £7.50 each.
or dep Moor Street 10:55, arr Marylebone 12:59. Advance Single = £5.00 each.
Got a railcard? Knock a third off if you have.

thanks for that we don't have to go to euston but it seemed a quicker route the £10 seems to take longer but for £10 i may well do it
ta very much0 -
Any advice gratefully received - don't travel by train very often so no idea of cheap ways to do it!

The advance (cheapest) tickets have not been released yet, but fortunately as you know the dates well in advance you will be first in the queue when they are :cool2:. TransPennine Express offers direct services, using a weekend in October as a test I could get it for £24.00. The full fare is £63.40. Currently some cashback websites have an offer for TransPennine (e.g. Topcashback).

...it looks like First TransPennine are currently booking up to the weekend before your one. So I would keep checking their website over the next few days (via a cashback site if you want the extra few % back).
Edit: this is the link to the First TransPennine Topcashback page
