What have you found? £91.30 a head for an off peak walk on return doesn't sound THAT bad to me.

Every single rail site will sell you a ticket at that price - just put in Burnley to Hastings and the dates. Route is generally Burnley - Preston - Euston - London Bridge or Charing Cross (underground is included) - Hastings. Times - just avoid the morning rush hour out and the morning/evening rush hours back.

If you put 2 people you'll get shown the total fare (£182.60) - that's not the confusion is it? Or are you looking at peak times - that is seriously expensive. Over £300 each

You could buy it on the train on the day, since Burnley Manchester Road is unstaffed. The only advantage of buying ahead is seat reservations Preston to Euston/vv

http://www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk/ is the site I used to research it

The front page info on eastcoast.co.uk is often incorrect.

    Currently showing:

Tickets are now available for travel up to and including
Friday 08 October 2010 with the exception of 26 September and 2 & 3 October.

A week ago I bought online and collected an Advance Single for 3rd October, and a couple of days ago I booked an Advance Single for 9th October, even though this date is apparently not available yet.

Maybe it depends on what route you want, but it's worth checking rather than just waiting for your dates to show on the front page.

    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

  • Hi folks,

Hoping someone can help me with a cheap deal from London to York and back the coming bank holiday weekend at the end of August.

I know demand is likely to be high for the bank holiday so I'm trying to be flexible in the hope that that might save me a few quid! Ideally I want to stay for 2 nights, either travelling Thursday (26th) evening or Friday (27th) morning, returning either Saturday or Sunday evening.

The cheapest I've found so far is around £50, on East Coast Trains. I'm travelling on my own, haven't got a railcard, and am not too fussy about changing/where in London I go from.

Thanks so much in advance if anyone's heard of anything!

York to Manchester advances are available from £6.50 single that weekend and Manchester to London advances are available from £11 single, giving an option of York to London from £35 (2 x £6.50 tickets)+(2 x £11 tickets)

Depending on what time you are willing to travel it may be cheaper to not go and come back via the same route.

You can get a 16-25 railcard up until one day before your 26th birthday and it's valid for a year even though you'll be 26 when you use it.
