London to Blackpool - where are the best locations to try split ticketing please?

The best deal will be an advance single for the entire journey if available at a reasonable price

    Failing that:

    Preston

    Manchester (slower route)

Crewe (using London Midland between London and Crewe - again slower route)

    Birmingham (again slower)

Leeds (a long way round but can be cheap)

Hello - just wanted to check - I want to spend a few days in london - either travelling on sunday 27th or monday 28th June travelling from newcastle. I can find £43 first class ticket each way - is this a good price or can I do better?? I don't need first class - its just the cheapest strangely.
    thanks

A £79 Off Peak Return Sunderland to London, by Grand Central Trains only, may be a contender.
Depends which side of Newcastle you're starting from I guess.

It will be difficult to beat £43 first class each way - available only at www.eastcoast.co.uk/first it seems.

Don't use the toilets at Manchester Piccadilly if you can help it, as it costs 30p per person through a turnstile. Go before you get off the first train! (But I always carry a 20p and 10p coin just in case ;)).

It's a big station and a bit confusing so you will probably need most of your 15-20 minutes to find your connection anyway.

I'd disagree with that. There are 12 dead end platforms, two through ones (platforms 13 and 14 a few minutes walk from the dead end ones) and Metrolink platforms underneath the station. The trains that use the through platforms always call at Manchester Oxford Rd before or after Manchester Piccadilly. If the train you take to Manchester Piccadilly terminates there and the train you're picking up is Manchester Airport to Newcastle for instance then 5 minutes will be enough if the train's on time but officially it's a 10 minute connection.
  • Just to say that East Coast Rail's cheap single day tickets are now up for the August Bank Holiday Monday even though the front page says that they are not on sale yet. Combined with the £5 deal they did the other week, I've managed to get myself a return to Edinburgh from London for £17! :j

It's a weekend, and you have found advance tickets. I doubt if you will do it cheaper. The fare on the day is over £100

Probably the cheapest you will get it - the normal fare is over £100

Don't use the trainline though - save yourself their booking fee by booking with a train operating company. Doesn't matter which one.
