I wish I had a fiver for every time I've said this - you are trying to book too early.

Most of the train companies have not released cheap fares for that weekend yet

Keep an eye on this link: http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/booking_horizons.html

I would imagine you will need Virgin or Transpennine

I just looked on First Great Western website for you and found the following:

    28 May
Edin - Blackpool - Advance Single Ticket
    Dep 12.08 Arrive 15.21
    Cost: £11

    30 May
Blackpool - Edin - Advance Single Ticket
    Dep 14.11 Arr 20.35
    Cost £15

When you say it's "expensive", you need to give an indicator of what "expensive" is to you.

Sounds like they've just been released then - Friday is a favourite day to do it and the link I gave can be a day or two behind reality

  • I am looking to purchase a single ticket from Reading to Truro, can you let me know what would be the best way to purchase it cheaply?

    Thanks

Buy it, in advance, from any of the rail websites. Or at Reading station - or any other manned station. It will be the same price regardless - so avoid any site that charges fees on top of the fare.

http://www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk/ run the service and have (IMO) an easy interface.

Don't try and book too early - wait for the advance tickets to be released. The FGW site will tell you when that is (on the tickets and fares page)
