I suggest you buy these tickets from the East Coast website (www.eastcoast.co.uk) and the Advance tickets have to be booked in advance and they may disappear or the price may rise if you don't book a.s.a.p.

    I hope this helps.

Thank you very much. I had looked on cross country trains and not found these prices. Some of yours disappeared even as I was checking, but have got Manchester - Rutherglen return for £65.50, at decent times and minimal changes, and off peak return Huddersfield - Manchester £ 11.40. Still a lot, but better than I found mysel.f

Hi all, i know i have left it late to book but going from Cardiff to London this weekend pref leaving on friday on the 16:55 coming back sunday open return would be good but if serious saving can be made then sometime around 3ish to return.

can anyone find price lower than £60 or recommend where to split tickets on the line. alternatively is there much saving to park and ride? is there a park and ride at swindon or didcot parkway which would save me.

thanks in advance for any help

Split ticketing at Didcot and Swindon often helps on this route - remember your trains must call at the splitting station - Didcot might catch you out.

There are car parks at both Swindon and Didcot stations - not that cheap though.

All franchised train companies have to offer a compensation scheme for delays and cancellations and the level of compensation is stated in the passenger charter for your operator.

    Hi Airlie,

Just wanted to say thank you for the advice, I just got my compensation through (£2 and £3 of rail vouchers - not a lot but I guess something is better than nothing).

    Thanks!

    More help required!

at the end of the month, i need two adult returns from sheffield to london, to go early in the morning, (7/8am) on the 27th and set off back at around 6/7pm on the 28th.

Cheapest i've found is £88 for 2 adults, but this still strikes me as being ridiculous, especially when it'll cost me half of that to drive there and back.

    Hiya

I need to travel from Manchester (or Stockport) to London and back on Saturday 20th March --- times are flexible would prefer to be there before about 11 and leave somewhere around 5 -- the cheapest i have been able to find is £22 one way and £29 the other = £51

Seems very expensive since I used to be able to get to London and back for less than £40 - any ideas how I could get it cheaper?

If that's total, then it looks quite cheap to me.

If it's each then you can definitely do it cheaper - £60 each for a walk on return

Have a look at megabus/train if you want it cheaper still. From £5 each way

You might save a whole £1 by coming back via Sheffield. Really not worth the extra journey time.

Have a look at split ticketing in Birmingham - I doubt if it will work but there's a chance. Again a longer journey though
