Rail Travel: Tips on Cheap Tickets

Thanks Steve,
I have looked at there site for traveling in May just to see if they do, but they only travel to London Monday to Thursday or do they change there timetable during the summer?
Many thanks
Jayne
I noticed that you could book for Friday 16 April, Nottingham to London for £5, but as you say, Sundays don't look to be on the agenda. Maybe if you hang fire a bit you may be able to use Megatrain for the outward journey and ordinary train for the return leg. I think you might be a little too early for the return journey at the best price using ordinary trains.0 -

Whilst it says Mondays to Thursdays, I don't think that's true - I think it's a footnote from an earlier timetable they forgot to delete.
Having said that on many routes they don't run at weekends.
They don't release tickets that far ahead either - it used to be 6 weeks but that seems more variable these days. A bit of experimenting should find the latest available date.0 -

I will keep checking the website in that case,
I may be back at a later stage for more advice,

I booked 2 single tickets from Northampton to Manchester and back online yesterday with Virgin trains, £19 each way travelling next month. Some prices on the same days were up to £46. The tickets have arrived in the post today. I'm glad to say I got good service in these days of many complaints of customer service.Justice for the 96 YNWA

Definitely too early by several weeks
You change normally at Maidenhead and sometimes at Bourne End as well
Where you need to change to get to Maidenhead is another matter - it depends on where you are starting from, which you haven't said. London Paddington to Reading and Oxford stopping trains call there if that helps.0 -
Sorry we are travelling from Leeds.
We are planning to go to either:
Reading
Marlow
Norwich
or Oxford.
Thanks again JeppyACII and Chartered so now I can focus on learning to play my beautiful Sax. 🎷0
