Rail Travel: Tips on Cheap Tickets

That's good.
I don't think you can use them to buy train tickets though. But I may be wrong.
You did notice that this is the Rail Travel: Tips on Cheap Tickets thread, didn't you?
yes sorry, I am looking for a bargain, possibly using some of my points, although this may restrict were we travel to.
I have to find a bargain train fare first!!
I have posted too early though, so I'll try again in a couple of weeks. dzug1 has given me a couple of routes, so that was very helpful, I'll keep an eye on the apt websites.
Thanks again everyoneACII and Chartered so now I can focus on learning to play my beautiful Sax. 🎷0 -
Morning all.
I am travelling on FCC from Arlesey to Kings X for a few weeks later this year.
Can you tell me if the following will work:
An Any Time return from Huntingdon to Kings X, and an any time return from Kings X to Huntingdon. This results in having a ticket for each leg valid for 1 month and with break of journey.
In addition, each day a single from Finsbury Park to London Terminals and an opposite single.
The singles would legitimately allow me to open the barriers and carrying the anytime returns would mean that I was always carrying a valid ticket.
Does this make sense? Also, I will be getting the tube to Green Park or Charing X every day, would the single from Finsbury Park to London Terminals cover the tube?
Thanks,

From Arlesley is significantly cheaper.
I think what you need is a Season Ticket. But I may have misunderstood your requirement. See here for a calculator.
Weekly Season Arlesley - London Terminals = £78.60.
Weekly Season Arlesley - London Zone 1-6 = £105.50.
Weekly Season Huntingdon - London Terminals = £100.10.
Weekly Season Huntingdon - London Zone 1-6 = £126.90.
No...............I will be getting the tube to Green Park or Charing X every day, would the single from Finsbury Park to London Terminals cover the tube?
Thanks,

You are probably a bit too early for the cheapest tickets.

His requirement if I understand right seems to be avoiding paying the fare, using the short distance fare to get in/out of the station at the London end and using/reusing the open returns at the outer end until they are collected/clipped. Having tickets to/from Huntingdon makes that less likely0 -
