Would love advice on ways to somehow reduce the cost of my monthly expense for traveling to my job in Hemel Hempsted from Liverpool St area...£361 is a painful amount, so would love to find a saving if possible.
Another painful amount would be £3760, thats the annual season ticket cost of the ticket you have at the moment. But...over the course of a year that could save you £572 over the cost of 12 monthlies. Some employers have schemes to help spread the cost of these tickets.

    going to london on 05-08 1 adult + 1 child(family railcard)
    bristol parkway 9;32
    off-peak day return £15.15
    didcot 10:17
    travelcard off-peak £19.55
    paddington11:03
    splitting ticket at didcot
the question is about the return
what time trains can we get back.
    can we get the 19.15.
on the train web-sites if i go from parkway to london we can,
but when i split at didcot, the paddington to didcot portion says no.

There are greater restrictions on short distance journeys out of Paddington in the evening rush hour than long ones.

You can get a stopping (non HST) train to Didcot no problem - but I suspect that you have to travel AFTER 1915 to get a fast one.

Yes, go by London Midland trains and go for a £10, go to there website and input your journey details then once its come up with the results, select 'show other routes' the tick 'London Midland trains only'

Thanks livingthedream but I can only find £26 fares on that website

Just had a quick look and the £10 fares are still available. When you get the £26 fare options, go to the left hand side of the screen and click 'show slower routes' and tick 'valid on london midland trains only' then update.

Slower route but a lot cheaper

Get a Family and friends railcard (use discount code MAIL09 for a £13 one which ends on 21st August or discount code NXEC20 for £20
offer closes 31 August 2009 for £20) for a start it will save you a bundle.

Then try spliting at Liverpool Lime st, use the NXEC website Birmingham NS to Liverpool LS and when you get the pricing info; go to the left hand side of the screen and click 'show slower routes' and tick 'valid on london midland trains only' then update.

Then get yourself some Off Peak day returns from Liverpool LS to Blackpool

    Hope that helps

Hi all, just wondered if somebody could help me.

I need to get from Cardiff Central to London Paddington on Saturday 22nd August - hopefully arriving between 10 - 11am.
Then returning on Sunday 23rd can leave anytime during the afternoon or late morning.

Just 1 adult ticket no railcards held.

hope somebody can help me find some cheap tickets.

Advance singles at £21 each way are currently available on any of the rail websites. A normal off peak return is £61 so you are saving a reasonable amount.
