I need to commute from Wakefield to Sheffield everyday and the season ticket is £140. I was told it's cheaper to break the journey. Anyone knows what my cheapest option is? I know there's a south yorkshire railmaster ticket that allows you to travel in south yorkshire anytime and any station but I dunno whether I can combine it to travel to west yorkshire.

    Hey all,

Im trying to get from Sheffield to London and returning on a different day ( a week later ). The singles quote me £6 from Sheffield but returning they are full price...

My dates of travel are 23rd May returning on 1st June (off peak is ok, times flexible).

Ive just had another look on midland mainline, its seems I can get the £6 fare to London, but I can get the £6 to sheffield, but the trains I can get are very limited.

    Thanks!

Please see my earlier post under 'Guest' on page 1 of this thread:

I suggest that you get a written confirmation from Virgin Trains like I did that this combination of ticket is valid and carry this letter with just in case any train manager queries about their validity. You should also carry a copy of the National Conditions of Carriage with you all the time to explain to them the provision under Condition 17(c), as the South Yorkshire RailMaster or TravelMaster ticket is not classed as a season ticket for the purpose of that section.

(P.S. I made my last post in July 2004 and prices of various tickets mentioned have all gone up since then)

hi folks - I moved a great post see the link above - any contributions gratefully received I am sure :)
    Blah
  • My husband was booking on Virgin for train tickets and found he would be charged for using his credit card in addition to the train fare. So he went to the Midland mainline website and they don't charge a fee for Credit card use. He got the same ticket but without the charge (£2.50 I think). SO don't use Virgin, they will rip you off for using your card!
    Pass this on.

Hi, looking for return journey (7-10 days) from Exeter to Inverness. Departure date flexible'ish in next 2 weeks. Any help finding cheapest travel appreciated - thx
  • Hi! There's alot of great information on this thread is great - I wish I could comprehend most of it. Both my girlfriend and I will shortly be starting work in London. We live in Hitchin at the moment, and both of us are unlikely to be travelling outside of Z1-2 in London. We both also hold student cards for the next few months. Can anyone tell me the cheapest method of getting a season ticket from Hitchin into London and back?
    Cheers!

This link does what it says:
    http://www.halfpricetraintickets.co.uk/

Only for services operated by South West Trains; only valid for day return tickets; excludes travel at peak times; and the promotion finishes on 11 June.

However, it is likely to be useful to lots of people.
