I managed to get to pboro for 16.50 return (central) and london for 10+15.20 (virgin) just by trying each and every day and randomly some cheaper tickets turned up!!! So happy! Saved about £30 there!0

This is a great (and until now) somewhat undiscovered site that will provide you with the cheapest train ticket, even if that's a split ticket.
It works like the screen scraping flight checkers (I think).
http://www.ma.ic.ac.uk/~finn/Train/
Wonder if Martin and the gang would be interested in helping the creator promote the site?
Saying that I'm not sure how well it will cope if it is just querying thetrainline's database! I'm sure they'll not like all the additional traffic.0 -
Amazing!
I've always wanted a site like this! I use trains a lot and often don't know the best/cheapest route to take.
Thanks!0 -

It was working fine earlier this moring... maybe it's the power of the MSE list again, maybe it's blown their bandwidth to smithereens?
:money: Martin :money: ... please investigate, this is an amazing little application from what I saw of it earlier!0 -
As suspected... the webpage now shows this message...
The Cheaper Train Fare Finder is currently closed due to crippling amounts of traffic
Hello! If you came here from a link on Google Groups then thanks for coming for a look!
Unfortunately, due to a massive increase in traffic since 9/3/6, I've had to close it for a short while so that I don't overload our poor departmental web server.
Please bookmark my page and comeback later if you haven't had a chance to use it yet.
If you have used this site before and you found it useful, please send me an email, particularly if it saved you any money, or you know of a saving that it didn't find.
Meanwhile, try this site for a cheaper fare: http://www.the-pev.co.uk/trains/tickets/0 -

I emailed the team to see if they would be interested in helping the creator with it. Not too sure if they can do anything but would be good if they could host the tool like they do with the flight/call checkers. not had a reply yet, but I guess it is the weekend - we all got to party sometime!0 -
