TICKETS TO PLACES PAST OR BEFORE YOUR DESTANATION
particularly to evesham1988la
as you seem to have train fares sussed.
My sister found it cheaper to get a gner ticket from Glasgow to London which passes through Edinburgh rather than straight to Edinburgh but has been told she can't just go from Edinburgh or she will be fined? and now I have disovered that by buying a ticket from Glasgow to Crewe rather than Wigan it is considerabley cheaper on the train I want.
Are these things not allowable? or finable? because I'd like to use the cheaper ticket to Crewe and just get off at Wigan.0 -

Well obviously you can't travel to a place past your destination on your ticket, however apparently you can't make a break (get off) before completing your journey - i.e. getting a ticket past your destination as it is cheaper.
However, I don't think it is finable unless they have electronic (or human) barriers at that station. This is similar to what people have been discussing on the MegaTrain thread where you can travel for a £1 between London and Portsmouth/Southampton ONLY. What if you want to get off at someone like Havant? It doesn't seem fair.sorry no links in signatures by site rules - Forum Team 20 -
Anyone know an even cheaper way to get from York to Stevenage? than the GNER £19 return?
I'm a student so any saving helps!!!
Thanks in advance0 -
Having missed out on the Daily Mail Vouchers, is there a cheap way for a couple to do Reading -> Birmingham International return on Wednesday?
It looks as though we will be driving at this rate (est cost £50 inc petrol and mileage wear for the 200 mile round trip).0 -

The following is taken from the National Rail Conditions of Carriage:
"15. Breaking or ending a journey at intermediate stations
You have the right to break and resume a journey covered by your ticket (in either direction in the case of a return ticket) at any intermediate station, as long as your ticket is valid for the trains you want to use. You may also end your journey before the destination shown on your ticket at any such intermediate station. However, these rights may not apply to certain tickets. If so, the relevant Train Companies will state this in their notices and other publications.
If you break or resume your journey when you are not entitled to do so, you will be liable to pay the difference between the price of your ticket and the price of the cheapest ticket(s) available for immediate travel that would have entitled you to break or resume your journey on the service(s) you have used.
If you end your journey at an intermediate station when you are not entitled to do so, you will have to pay the difference between the price of your ticket and the price of the cheapest ticket available for immediate travel that would have entitled you to end your journey at that station on the service you have used.
Please note that a ticket which entitles you to travel on the London Underground does not entitle you to break and resume your journey at any of its stations unless it is a season ticket or a Travelcard."
Anyone from the South Yorkshire area might be interested to note the following:
Sheffield to Doncaster
Standard Day Single £3.30
Cheap Day Return £3.60
Standard Day Return £5.30
However, if you ask for a ticket from DORE to Doncaster, a Standard Day Single is only £2.10! Dore is a station further away from Sheffield and you have to change trains at Sheffield. So buying two single tickets to and from Dore instead of from Sheffield cost just £4.20 instead of £5.30.
And if you have to get a bus to/from station at either end, buy a South Yorkshire Day TravelMaster instead which costs £4.95 which is valid on all buses and trams as well.0 -
I was disgusted to find that if I bought a ticket from Birmingham to Leicester for a week it costs £57, however if I buy a ticket from Birmingham to Narborough (£29), then Narborough to Leicester (£17) for a week it costs £46, a saving of £11 just for getting an extra ticket!

I think you're on to something. Now we need to know where these hidden discount routes exist!0

I have a feeling that with most City-City routes you can cut it up into two tickets it is better to ask the conductors on the trains rather than the ticket office.

Hi,
I will be travelling permanently from Sowerby Bridge in West Yorkshire to Sheffield in South Yorkshire via Leeds.
I have just moved into the area.
Does anybody know of any railcards to save me money as its currently £12.35 a day in travel costs, there must be a cheaper way than that
Thanks
Mark0
