Well the standard fare is £142, so you are being overquoted anyway

You can do it for around £120 by booking on Virgin's website as long as the 0913 departure suits - coming back it doesn't matter

Had you booked further in advance it could have been cheaper

I was planning on driving down but the car is playing up BIG TIME so have to look at other options. Thanks for looking into the prices though.> I really appreciate it!

    Hi

I want to go to London off peak on Saturday 10th January and return off peak on Monday 12th January, looking for 2 tickets from either Derby or Alfreton, cant find anything less than £49 per single making £98 each return. Also looking to use the tube for the three days Saturday to Monday for trips in zones 1&2 with one return trip to canary Wharf on the Sunday. I do have an oyster card but havent used it yet.

Any advice or where to look would be most appreciated

After my previous post, didnt look like anyone knew there would be any reductions in fares, however, today booked with Virgin from Derby to London for £18 return, obviously nobody saw that one coming, so worth checking for yourself every day and not always relying on others advice. Saved a good bit and dont now need to park at Stanmore and tube in.

Virgin don't run from Derby to London (or anywhere else), so you are either changing somewhere or not travelling with them.

You've probably bought an East Midlands ticket from them - no problem.
  • Just found the site, I travel to London Waterloo from Bristol Temple Meads once a month, the cheapest fare I have found is to spit the journey Bristol to Dodcot Didcot to Waterloo (including off peak travel card-all zone) its £16.80 + £21.90 = £38.70(the train must stop at Didcot but I never get off) the trough ticket costs £53.60 to paddington and then £5.30 for the Zone `1-2 travel card. total £58.90 saving £20.20p
Also using the split ticket you are able to travel on any train from Bristol via Didcot not as the 'cheap fare tickets' and leave London before 19.30 and get a seat on the trains after 19.30 the trains are packed as far as Swindon as everyone on a 'cheap £53.60 ticket from Bristol etc can not travel during the 'peak hours' of `16.00 - 19.30. Hope this helps someone.

Booked on the Virgin website, credit card taken by Virgin, tickets arrive in a Virgin envelope stating on the tickets Issuing Office Virgin Trains.
I really dont care if it's a Virgin train an old slapper train or worn out mare train. It takes me directly to London without any changes and charges £10 to get there and £8 back.

Well you might care if you were standing on Derby station waiting for a Virgin train to turn up and didn't work out what was going on in time.

But you've got cheap fares - that's the main thing:j
