    not purple but grey

i did comment to MIL that there's no way the cake pictured in the book could have been made to the exact recipe in the book. It would need a darker sugar such as muscavado, or a good blast in an oven to get it that shade of brown.

as an aside if you can manage to salvage any it tastes even better a day later

How is everyone else getting on with their book, it was constantly being updated here when the show was on, but seems to have fallen from discussion.

does anyone know if there are plans for a second series?

I made the steamed banana sponge with toffee sauce on the weekend, much to the delight of my family. Yum yum pigs bum :D Made a nice change from banana bread as it felt much more decadent

I haven't heard that for years :D We used to say "Yum yum pigs bum, cut it in half and we'll all have some" :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Just a little EG update :

Pappadelle with beef and tomato salsa has been cooked we all loved it apart from the OH who wouldn't try it but that was his lost.
I have also done the pizza from scratch bit of a faf to do but worth it. following the recipe i had enough for 2 large pizza's for tea that night and froze enough for another meal too.
This book has inspired me so much and also changed my way of thinking and shopping. I really do hope and pray they make another series

I am still tempted, still in the midst of a major declutter and at the moment still resisting.

Does any one know if they are going to do another series of this? I enjoyed it and even though most of the ideas I already used it is always good to get a fresh idea or two!

  • So far I've done the pork and the beef tumbledowns and yum isn't really the word. My favourite ones were definitely the pork with spinach dumplings (could have easily just eaten the dumplings in some kind of soup with the pork stock and some bits of ham, and the beef daube and then the pasties. The Pork stock was absolutely gorgeous and I've still got loads of it that I froze in ice cube trays and stuck into the freezer.
It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.
