4.30pm??? Really???? :confused:I've never known secondary schools to stay until that time.
Children do not do 2/3rds of a day now:rolleyes: but I suspect you realise that and are just winding us up now. ;)

Zippy, I will definitely try the chicken out on your recommendation. :T

Woo hoo! Let me know what you think! I added a bit of honey and garam masala too . The skin of the chicken was yum, slightly blackish, crispy, spicy. Mmmmmm drooling-3.gif Would make for nice sambos with leftovers too!

  • most secondary schools tend to start somewhere between 8:30 and 9:00 and finish somewhere between 3:00 and 3:30. most have somewhere between 30 minutes and an hour for lunch and 10 to 15 minutes for a break at some point in the morning.... they all have to do the same amount of time regardless of what time they start or finish and have to do the same number of days per academic year (191, i believe)

I made the chilli recipe - kind of ;)

Did the braised mince stuff, then made into chilli, added lentils, oats, and extra k beans and missed out the red wine.

Anyway OH declared that I'm not to go back to my "old way" as he much prefers this chilli ;) Good job as there's 3 more lots of it in the freezer :rotfl:

Will try the braised mince into their bolognaise recipe next (it was in good food mag) - still really tempted to get the book after seeing the salmon recipes. But would have to opt out of cooking fish heads though _pale__pale__pale__pale_
working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?

I acutally prefer a brownie plain, without any extras in it!

I make my brownies from a recipe that appeared in the Jackie Magazine over 40years ago (OMG:eek:). The original recipe had a fudgy topping which I never used as I too prefer my brownies plain. They are an all-in-one mix, get moister in the middle if you can manage to keep them for longer than 24hrs and have a proven 'shelf life' of 3-4 weeks (I sent some through the post to DS in Iraq a couple of years ago and he and his mates devoured them on Xmas morning and pronounced them perfect:p) AND it doesn't have chocolate in it just cocoa or drinking chocolate powder.

Am going to have to give this Mince a go sometime! COoking for one, I need to wait until I have either space in my freezer, or someone else to cook for for a few days!:rotfl:

Sorry when I attended secondary school we put a full day in til 4.30 at least. I wasn't aware that this had now changed to 2/3rds of a day..
My sons leave the house at 8am to catch the bus which gets them to school for 8.35 for registration at 8.45am, school is 6½miles away.

they then go through the day finishing at 3.10pm to catch the bus home so they arrive home approx 3.40pm.

As parents we had the option last year to shorten the lunch break by 15 minutes so they finished school earlier.

If they stay to after school clubs then i have to go and fetch them as there is no alternative way of them getting home. Hence my reason for not working fulltime whilst they are in school. I am a "dinner lady" at the primary school DS2 has just left.

When I was at school I left the house at 8.20 to bike the 3 miles to my secondary school had lessons all day and returned home approx 3.45pm having obviously biked the 3 miles home again, this was not optional and I had to do it in all weathers, we lived just inside the bus criteria cut off point; I could see the kids who got the bus waiting from my gate.
    My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
    So we’re empty nesters.
    Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).
My mother always served up leftovers we never knew what the original meal was. - Tracey Ulman

I usually cook a double portion of mince with whichever seasonings etc and freeze half for a day when i need to grab something, or I'll portion into individual tubs so Dh can take them for his lunches instead of sandwiches all the time.
