Talking about schools. In Glasgow all the secondary schools changed their hours last year (just as my wee brother started first year as well)
On Monday and Tuesday he is in school 8:45am-4:15pm and Wed, Thu and Fri he is in 8:45am-3:35pm
On monday and tuesday they have 3 classes, break, 2 classes then lunch, then another 2 classes.
The rest of the week, they have 3 classes, break, 2 classes, lunch then one class
My brother leaves the house at 7:40am to get a bus to the train station. Gets the train at 8:25am, to get to registation for 8:45am. Then when he is in school till 4:15 he doesn't get home until about 5:20pm!!
I went to the same secondary school, but i finished about 6 years ago. School started at 9am, and finished at 3:35pm. I also had to get the bus to the train station to get the train to school.
Even though there is a secondary school at the end of our street!!!!0 -
I'm just reading the posts mentioning the "GREEN CONE", and it keeps making me think of "MOON CUP", which I know is a completely different thing!

Next time you go camping can you tell me where you're going, so that we can pitch our tent next to yours and look hungry? That sounds yummy, and far more exciting than my usual campsite offerings!
There are those that would argue that it isn't 'proper' camping! We have an extremely old (it was old when we got it when dd was a baby and she's now 19!) trailer tent, to which dh added electrics, so we have a hook up.
In the last week of the summer hols we mums camp with various of our own and other peoples' children. It's a bit of a cooperative attempt and pooling of ideas and resources. This year I was trying to be organised as I didn't have a car for most of the time and depended on the others for going shopping.
Once when we were at Keswick I snook off to Lakeland at Windermere and one of the things I got was an electric waffle maker. Stashed it in the tent, then the kids all wanted to know when they were going to get waffles....no scales, no mixer no nothing....but I did it! So it has been a bit of a tradition. THese days I bag up the ingredients before leaving home! I made one of the bags of stuff into welsh cakes instead of waffles and they went down very well too. I had a free morning when the others all went off to get exam results, so got bits and pieces ready for their lunch.
Friend A does a nice Thai green curry and Friend B either a chilli or a corned beef hash. We all did a risotto this year, a couple of us did lamb curry with spicy couscous. We don't all cook every night. WHen the dads are there at the weekend we tend to BBQ."Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Whats wrong with dropping your kids off earlier and getting there at 9? I have worked with a lot of women with kids and thats what they used to do. As for the end of the day if they couldn't pick them up after school finishes they would work through lunch and leave at 4.
I don't know what the school rules are like now, but when my kids were at primary school (in 1990s) all parents were told (warned!) that the school did not provide child care facilities and were not responsible for children before the start and after the end of the school day. So basically we COULD leave our children earlier than 8.45am/9am and collect later than 3pm/3.15pm BUT it was at our own risk.0 -

I hate winter, it seems like you have no day:(
I'm lucky, I sit in the corner of a glass sided building, so I do see daytime, but at the same time when you are in a climate controlled building, its easy to feel like the day slipped by without you being aware of it.
I love the summer, you get home & still have so much "day" left:D0 -

HOPE HOPE HOPE it's lamb. That's more "usual" than veal, I'd say.
(and it is easily exchanged for mutton, beef, etc)
Hopefully the veal is for the "Gastro" bit of the prog.0 -
