Fans of Nigel Slater will be pleased to know that he has a new programme
Nigel Slater's Simple Suppers starting next Wednesday at 7.30 on BBC1 or 8 on BBCHD.

He'll be focussing on home grown veg.

Here are some of the recipes which you can download.

I'll probably watch this one as I like his writing and recipes and it looks like it will be free of any 'reality' element which puts me right off any programme.

He does have a new book out Tender, which I don't think is a direct TV tie-in. It is pricy but I imagine it is a doorstopper of a book. i seem to have pre-ordered it. I wish Amazon would stop doing that for me:D
  • Oh thanks for that thriftlady - I have a few of Nigel Slater's books, so I'll be tuning in :T

I am looking forward to tonight, I have to say. Out of the recipes they're going to be showing, I think I would most likely cook the fish pie. As others have said, I am surprised that there aren't any pasta dishes and it'll be interesting to see whether the students keep it up. I wonder what their budget will be.

    Just had a nosy
Leading chefs and restaurateurs Allegra McEvedy and Paul Merrett show five Cambridge students how to prepare simple, healthy and affordable meals. The friends spend an average of £250 a week between them, but live on tinned, microwaveable and packet food and never cook or eat together. The experts present them with recipes including spicy lamb shish kebab, veal ratatouille, fish pie and meatball and chorizo stew
Quick calc, £250x4=£1000 month for the household. Or £200 a month average per person?!

Is that right? I must have worked that out wrong?!:eek::eek:

For being students, that is a hell of a lot!
A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

That sounds right if they are all buying individual ready meals zippychick, I guess if they take turns with the cooking and make meals for all 5 of them that will help to bring the costs down. Just the thought of paying a supermarket £50 a week for ready meals makes me want to scream! lol
