Will everyone stop moaning about the athletics! It's a one off event, Jessica Ennis has won a gold in the Heptathalon and Phillipes Idowu has just one a gold in the triple jump! It's fantastic!
No one is missing Economy Gastronomy because it isn't on this week.

See this is how exciting it gets, thriftlady has got her won and one mixed up :rotfl: Almost unheard of( sorry thrifty, not getting at you, but it was a very useful illustration

I have watched both episodes and really was impressed with the second family. Despite both working full time they fitted in the cooking and really enjoyed it. (puts me to shame
)
And I was so impressed when they went from £320 a week down to £60 a week:eek:
The series even managed to inspire me to make macaroni cheese for my husband. I have never made a white sauce in my 30 odd years. Yes the first attempt was a little bit browner on the top than it should have been and there did not seem to be as much sauce as I thought would be in it. But husband said it was nice.
I may be making more of the recipes of at least adapting them for my house hold. And may even treat myself to the book when I have some amazon vouchers to claim.
As Allegra keeps saying we have lost that loving feeling in the kitchen and I think many of us have. We are tired when we get home. And are happy just to bung something in the oven, microwave etc. I work 4 and half days a week have a disabled husband and when I get home the last thing I want is cook. I also tend to stick to the same things and it all become a bit samey.
Our parents did not have the options that we have. But I am not sure our lives are any better for it. We rush from place to place. Are stressed to the eyeballs. Seem to worry what people will say because of the clothes, car etc that we own.
Life is not a competition to see how you can spend, save or who has the better car, clothes, house etc.
I look forward to the next episode.

There's very little chance of you knowing the outcome if a sports evens starts at 8pm and is delay for 1 hour while you watch something else.
My old dad survived for years watching match of the day showing football matches that had been played hours earlier.Churchmouse wrote: »That way you can truly experience the excitement.
I've been forced to watch sport before, there is no excitement.Churchmouse wrote: »A program recorded weeks ago loses nothing by being shown at a later time.
But we don't know the outcome, so we still get all the excitement. A sports event that is shown delayed by 1 hours would be the same. I watched a film made in 1937 last week, I had never seen it before, or heard of it. In fact it was made before my parents met, but the ending still surprised me.
If a football match starts at 7pm, and the TV company starts broadcasting it at 8pm then I can watch it not knowing the outcome, it would not make any difference to me. I would still be watching something where I don't know what happens next.Churchmouse wrote: »And I bet the viewing figures for the sport are bigger than those for economy gastronomy:D
And that is what annoys people, they watch something faithfully each week then they are cast aside for people who normally don't watch, just so the TV company can say it brought in a few more viewers. To the regular viewers it seems like the TV company has thought "We can make a quick buck from some new viewers, so to h*ll with those who were here watching last week and the week before, they'll come crawling back next week".0 -

 Why is sport always given priority over decent programmes that people actually want to watch!
I actually want to watch the athletics, while the event's taking place.
I, for one, am glad that our national broadcaster has taken the opportunity to show world-class athletics in prime-time - it's got to be a better example for the kids, health-wise, than that awful hot-dog and cabbage mush, anyway.
It's only a week - why don't you give the athletics a try? You never know - you might like itOh come on, don't be silly.
It's the internet - it's not real!0 -
Not watched it yet but this new series on BBC 3 might be of interest:
Britain's kitchens are a disaster zone - we appear clueless when it comes to cookery. Instead of sitting down to a freshly-cooked meal around the dining table Brits are now more likely to sit down to a takeaway in front of the TV.
One man wants to change this. At just 26, Gordon Jones is head chef at one of the country's leading five star hotels, the Royal Crescent in Bath. Now he wants to get households cooking tasty, healthy and fresh meals, eating together again and reconnecting with each other. And he'll save them a fortune in the process.
Each episode, he picks two virgin cooks from a household and places them in a seven-day head-to-head cookery competition which starts with him slashing their food budget. By the end of the week, the person who has come on the furthest wins the ultimate prize: to cook a three-course menu, of their own design, for 20 to 30 friends and family.
Enfield in North London is home to the first family of the series - the Brennans. Dad Rob, mum Lyn and their sons Jimmie, 19, and Ricky, 15, are a family of sports-mad Spurs supporters who eat appalling food. Mum waits on everyone and her food mantra is simple - 'give me a tin opener and I'll give you a meal'. The family shells out over 1000 pounds a month on takeaways and ready meals.
Gordon's challenge is to take Lyn and Jimmie and teach them to cook properly in just seven days, so it's mum v son in the family cooking competition. But after 30 years of producing tasteless bland food, can Gordon undo mum's appalling kitchen habits and can he teach Jimmie to grow up and cook on his own two feet?
At the end of it, one of them has to cook a three-course dinner party for a group of friends and family at one of the country's premier sporting venues. But who will it be?

I've not read through the whole post yet so apologies if this is already asked.....
Has anyone bought the book to go with the series? Can someone list all the meals they suggest for the bedrock mince recipe please?Banana LoversBuy your bananas in bunches of 5 on Sunday. Then arrange them in order of ripeness and write a day of the week on each banana in felt pen, Monday on the ripest, Friday on the greenest to save time making those decisions on a hectic weekday morning0 -
It will be quicker for you to read the posts than for someone to write everything down0

what annoyed me is they showed the same atletics on both bbc2 and bbc hd
and the drivel they showed on bbc one in the 8pm slot could have been shelved for economy gastronomy !!
