strike to go ahead 12th/13th August.... aparently there may be week long walkouts next month

About time the union were forced to pay for the lost hours that people cannot work when the service is removed.

Like others I say work in the real world, and then try this. It is about time striking was got rid of for good, or the union were forced to cover the cost to all those that they effect, maybe then they would think a lot harder about going ahead with it. You have a choice, work in the job, or leave and find another, not exactly rocket science.

Don't forget many pay stupid amounts to use the train, and the inconvenience is not going to encourage them to continue to do so. This, along with the lost money caused to the employer, could actually lead to job losses in the long run as there is less money to go round. All in all this could just backfire on those who are so keen to have the long weekends

I came out of a better paying job to do what i do now. Do you really believe NX spin on this being about pay??? Nobody forces anyone to use public transport and as for leading to job loses, the opposite applies with prospect of the Olympics. Why shouldn't we fight for fair conditions??? The choice to strike midnight to midnight and not midday-midday was taken with commuters in mind ie long weekends rather then stiking midday tuesday till midday thursday and messing up your whole week. Im proud in the fact RMT/ASLEF/TSSA have shown solidarity, its about time others stood up for what they believe in. Not being pushed about by companies only in it for profits and keeping share holders happy. Come September we will be working for a new TOC, when NX forced to hand back all franchises, not just loss making ones.
  • So kind of you lot to do it on thursday and friday . Lovely to know you were thinking of us . Tea bags the wrong kind or something are they ? Conditions and looking after your fellow workers . Dont make us laugh. Id like to strike as well . My bills are going up like everyones but you know what ? Thats life mate, If I go on strike ill be shown the door.

Get real and dont expect most of us to warm to your pathetic Bob Crow garbage. Show me where I can sign up to replace you and you can stick your union where the sun dosnt shine . If you dont like it go and get another job and let some poor sod who is out of work do yours .

Just wanted to say thanks for letting us know this - interesting to know and much appreciated.

    However :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Week-long strikes - what a complete and utter farce this is all becoming. I don't really care if the strikes are about more money, working conditions, 4 day working weeks, losing benefits - it really doesn't matter.

In every other job it would be like it or lump it, not strike! These strikes don't just affect train staff, it puts the everyday joe working public at further risk of losing THEIR jobs - cos guess what, if we can't make it into work, we'll be first in line for the chop.

Week long strikes - you must be kidding!

Have to say, am I the only one shocked at your naivety? What company would run if not for profit and keeping shareholders happy - the only answer to that is a charity and I can tell you NXEA, the shareholders, taxpayers and customers are NOT a charity!

Sammyw and Sarah - did you both go to your theatre nights and have fun? Hope so :), looking for a bit of an upside and two fingers up at this business at the moment ;)

  • Maybe we should encourage them to strike for a week at a time . Then the union has to pay the wages of the puppets who are on strike not NX.

With any luck the unions will be broke in a few days and we can all go back to normal .

Striking is so 1970's . Activist rubbish for people living in a different world. It really wouldnt stink so much if you people did it when the companies were making huge profits. No you do it when passenger numbers are down because they are out of work and there is a world ressession lol . Jeez you people are dumb. Dont treat us the same way.

I went! Priscilla was brilliant. :D And, even better, found a decent budget hotel in the West End out of it:

    http://www.thanethotel.co.uk/

We booked it because it's a 10-15 minute walk from theatreland but on a quiet street, and it's about the cheapest you'll find a room in that area. Was expecting it to be, you know, pretty dodgy but just a place to rest our heads. Was pleasantly surprised!

Room 5 is a twin, but comes with a double and a single bed. And a balcony! (the only room to have one) Overlooking the back so really quiet. And a Full English included next morning, all for £106. That's the same price as a room in the Covent Garden Travelodge which I've also stayed at and couldn't really recommend.

Also, am at work today despite the strikes. I went to the station about 20 mins before the train was due this morning, to jostle for position on the platform. A few minutes after I arrived, an unscheduled additional train came through which I got on. Looks like support for the strike may be wavering as there seem to be a few unscheduled services running which hopefully are the result of drivers going back to work.

Absolutely - Friday is exactly the night we all want to be late home and !!!!!! off from being rammed onto one of the few trains to run.
