    Hi Hettie,

Just thinking (I haven't read the whole thread so apologies if this has already been suggested) - have you posted your question in the ask a CCS thread? They might be able to give you advice about writing them another letter...

Loads of hugs from me xx

Hettie - if bankruptcy is right for you then ignore anyone who thinks they are better than you. Do what's right for you - bankruptcy is a legal process and is there to help people - yes it's nice to be able to pay off all your debt but things happen and sometimes bankruptcy can give people their life back - we can all make mistakes and everyone deserves a second chance.
I am not recommending bankruptcy but merely stating my opinion on it as Katy M's post came across a bit harsh (whether it was meant like that or not).

    Hi hettiecarro,

Sorry to hear you're feeling down. It's a big blow, especially when you've made such an effort and had so much positive energy to get the mess sorted. As others have said the creditors have you down no doubt as someone who's always paid on time and the correct amounts and can't yet accept that your circumstances have changed. From their point of view perhaps they think you'll be able to get another well paying job soon and would then be able to resume payments. If that doesn't happen then they'll just have to accept that you don't have the money and they can't have what you don't have.....

In the mean time you're no criminal but someone who has put heart and soul into getting a doable plan together, someone to be looked up to and admired.

Oops sorry - I didn't mean to.....I was meant to sound non opioniated about it. :p Obviously it didn't work - this is a sure sign that I am *sigh* turning into my mother!

The person who I know that went through bankruptcy is my boyfriend and he's my favourite person in the world so I understand the reasons for doing it!

I was just pre-empting some possible responses that may have come from it.

Hettie - like DF says.....if it gives you your life back then it is a good thing xxx

  • Thank you all for your continued support.

Sorry I haven't replied earlier - but did what one of you advised and went for a long walk.

I know I shouldn't fall at the first hurdle and that I am very lucky in the support I get from OH and family.

I will try to hold my nerve and re-write to the creditors.

I have seriously considered bankrupty as an option, but genuinely feel it would make matters worse. OH has been lucky to get himself a job after being made redunadant, but now he has found out that the firm is being bought out by an American company. His job may well be safe, but it could also go in the course of any re-structure.

I am in the process of selling the car at the moment. OH does need his for work but it's only a fiat panda and very economical, so plan is to keep it and just run it into the ground if necessary.

I am a bit of a diy nut, so am busying myself with 'tarting' the house up.
(I am not spending any money on it, just using up paint etc.)

Hopefully, if we need to sell the house (which OH is fully behind if necessary) then it will at least be in good repair and decorative order.
I know however, that it is very much a buyers market still and so could well take time to sell.

I still feel guilty about even thinking the F & F route - as you have said, I borrowed the money and should pay it back - but we are approaching our sixties, and if my health suddenly returned tomorrow it is going to be hard to get the type of job I would need to service this debt.

I don't really know what I expected from the creditors - though their point blank refusal of my token payment did shock me.

Do you agree I should write again? I didn't mention being ill or anything in my first letter - used the standard CCCS template just mentioning I am now unemployed.

Should I go into more detail? I don't think they are particularly interested in the whys and wherefores are they?

Grandson and family coming for weekend so hopefully they will take my mind off things.

Spending plan is going well and not spending hardly anything. I am from good welsh mining stock - so used to home cooking and making do.

Thanks again to all of you for supporting me. :)

  • Just an update.

I have sent further letters to creditors, referring them to my original and asking that they give further consideration to my situation as far as freezing interest & charges is concerned.

I am feeling a little more on track now as there really is no option. I can't give them what I haven't got.

CCCS counsellor said that 'common sense' should eventually kick in with them and they will realise that there is nothing else I can offer in the short term.

    Car is up for sale.

Didn't do as well as I thought from auction - but some items going into next one.

I'm still working on the house, and to be honest it may not be a bad thing to sell it and rent. I am beginning to wonder whether living in Mums house was such a good idea.

Anyway - hope all of you are ok.

    Hair is growing back! :rotfl:

    Hi Hettie

That's spooky - I was just about to post asking for an update.

    Hoorah for you :j

Really pleased to see that you're feeling positive and are feeling that you have options available and are not hitting a dead end.

Like you said - and like DF has said before - at the end of the day, it is only money, and if you haven't got it, you haven't got it.

The main thing is that you are in a loving relationship with somebody who makes you happy and obviously cares for you very much.Whatever else happens, you will never be alone, and that is the most important thing.

If down sizing and selling the house is what you must do - then do it!

I love moving house, it's so exciting making a brand new start with things, maybe it would be for the best, like a new chapter in your lives.

Glad to hear the hair situation is ok, my jam making was very successful.

Blackberries in the south west are now an endangered fruit!

    Hi Hettie

Sounds like you've got your energy back, good for you. The other thing about selling stuff, even the car, is that you have *proof* to show your creditors that you're doing everything you can - they have to be reasonable in the end, as your CCCS counsellor said - doesn't mean they won't be stupid in the meantime, of course, so keep going!

Are you doing the whole blackberry thing as well?

    Hi

Blackberries not fully ripened yet (must be backward in Wales) - no comment please - :rotfl:

Just warning KatyM off in case she decides to wander!

Just s well anyway because there is free listing for 10days on ebay - so going crazy on that this week. (cat got worried when I photographed him yesterday) - and OH's football programmes have disappeared into the back of his car!! ;)

This damned illness is so annoying - I feel so 'up' one minute and on the floor the next!

Thanks for your continuing support you are all wonderful. :T

Got someone coming to view car tonight - fingers crossed :j

Back to ebay for me then. Catch you later!

    Hugs to all
