HI MM
We get all sorts of cuts of venison from a friend for the freezer. Have tried the marinating thing and found it totally unedible.
I just cube any venison and do a casserole type thing in SC with veg, stock, herbs, onionsand garlic and a plash of red wine. I do not like venison but DH does.
Hope this helps.

Chinese 5 spice - cinnamon, pepper, ground ginger
But tell me, odds-n-sods, why is it called 5 spice when you've only mentioned three :question:I am the leading lady in the movie of my life

We have been given a present of some Venison. I've never eaten or cooked it before. Has any one got some nice recipes to help me use it and not waste it. I have a slow cooker if this helps. Is there anything I need to look out for before I cook it and is there any specific preparations that it would need?
Thanks for yor help.0 -

I always do my venison (hark at me sounding like Lady Muck of Dunghill - but then I have farmer and gamekeeper friends!) in a similar fashion to the equivalent joint of beef.
My favourite method is to marinate overnight in a mix of red wine and finely chopped onions and then casserole in the marinade, thickening with a mix of veg or gravy granules if needed. Hope that helps and that you enjoy the venison.0 -
Hi turra,
Welcome to MSE :hello:
As others have said it will depend what cut of venison that you have. This older thread may help:

I've got one piece with a joint in it and another without, so thanks everybody for the ideas. Just need to get round to doing something with it from all the recipes. Red wine , mushrooms n shallots is looking good for the non jointed one.0
