    Good afternoon all!
Bedroom is all done, looks gorgeous!:T Waiting for the carpet fitters now, then we can move back in to the room.
DS started his first shift in a pub last night. At least he's got a job!

Carpet fitter came, bought one too small by 6 inches! Still, can use it in the dining room. Had to go to carpet right (500 yards away!) and get another one. All done now!:T

    Have a good day!

    Afternoon all.

Ooh, I'm tired after the weekend. Did a lot of tidying up and chucking out of old mags, leaflets and other assorted trash.

Also, we've finally got aroung to purchasing a new bed and sofa. We've been talking about it for about a year, and Saturday we actually went out and selected them.

I haven't caught up with the weekend threads, so I hope everyone had a good weekend, and those who are poorly/have poorly families are getting better.

MSDiva I wonder if your pink fluffy flower things are red valerian? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_valerian
If so, it spreads like wildfire, and personally I regard it as a weed!

Afternoon all. Had a lovely long lie in bed this morning, still recovering from my night shifts I think! Kids are away with their Dad, so had no reason to get up!

When I finally did get up, I went to tesco, and have come back and cleaned the fridge out. Been meaning to do it for a while, so glad its finally done.

Need to phone the RSPCA to see what is going to happen to my foster cat when we go away to my mums for 10 days in August. I leave my other 2 cats at home and a friend pops in twice a day to feed them, but wouldn't be happy to do that with Samantha as she has been so ill, plus she tends to eat smaller amounts 3-4 times a day, so would need more regular visits, and thats a lot to ask someone.

I would take her with us, as my mum is very much a cat person, but then if she was ill I think I'd have to cover the vets bill, whereas here it is covered by the RSPCA provided I go to their chosen vet. Anyway, will see what the lady has to say.

Really need to motivate myself to get some jobs done whilst the kids are away, plenty needs doing, I just can't be bothered!!

MSD, I just take down the shower curtains and leave them in the bath, soaking in a bleach solution for a few hours, then wash them as normal and they come out like new.

    .
I do the same more or less. I squash the bottom mouldy bit of the curtain in a bucket of bleachy water and leave in the garden for a few hours then wash;)

    Busy, busy, busy chez Thrift.

I have done the shopping and not spent all my housekeeping in one go:j

I have made a batch of my freezer veg hash using all English veg except the bulb of garlic which I brought home from France. One head of celery, a bag of onions (about 9), 6-8 carrots, 3 leeks, 2 red peppers and the garlic all whizzed in the Magimix then portioned into 20 little plastic tubs and frozen ready for action in soups, stews, curries, pasta sauce etc.

I've made a batch of seeded granary bread which needs knocking back in a mo.

I'm making a pavlova later (it can dry out in the oven this evening). It is my eldest son's 14th birthday tomorrow and he always requests raspberry pav for his birthday meal. We're having bbq spare ribs as well;)

The washing machine has finally stopped after being on almost continually since 7pm on Saturday (holiday washing). It isn't all dry by any means because it keeps raining but the end is in sight.

I've got some trout fillets for supper which I will grill and serve with new pots and salad/peas.

    Afternoon all,

Quite warm here, has been threatening to rain all day but we have only had a few drops so that's ok.

Ivyleaf....I buy neck of lamb, bones included, chopped into chunks...the lot I used yesterday was 4 lbs. Browned it slowly in its own fat, added carrots, onions (both sliced) half a glass of wine, glass of water, salt, pepper, few sprigs rosemary, tsp cinnamon, boiled up for few minutes covered and put in oven (100c), leave for as long as you like....think it was about 4 hours. Serve with rice or steamed potatoes. Just something different to feed us cheaply.

Not done much to-day, couple of loads of washing waiting, might do one this evening and leave rest for to-morrow....don't know when the next day when we have no rain will be so just chancing putting things out at present.

Hugs to all, welcome to newbies

Thanks Marie, it sounds very tasty! - I do something a bit similar, without the cinnamon and rosemary, with very thinly-sliced potatoes on top. I use a pyrex casserole for it so the spuds brown through the lid.

thriftlady - Glad you enjoyed your holiday, and the supermarkets - you can keep the shellfish though....... _pale_ Would you like to go back there? Oh, and was the gite nice?

halight - Sorry to hear about the twins' colds! Hope they get better quickly. Glad to hear your appointment with the consultant has been brought forward.

bargainbird - love your new avatar!

Went to Lidl this morning for some of the 29p celery, loo roll and a few other bits. DH likes their "Fruit and Fibre" cereal. On Thursday they should have some good-sized airers coming in for £6.99, so will go back and have a look then - we have one but it's too small for most thngs except pants and socks.

Apart from that I haven't really done much as I'm extra tired atm, must be this virus. Dinner is lovely pork chops from the butcher. Am trying to think of the best way to cook them to make sure they're not dry - will propably do them in a casserole dish with some gravy, i think. I absently bought 3 chops, forgetting DS doesn't like them and won't be here for dinner anyway - will cut up the other one and stirfry it tomorrow, with mixed peppers and spring onions and soy sauce.

Hope everyone has a good evening.
