OS Daily Thread - Sunday 26th July

Evening all,
Late to-day as I was at a funeral this afternoon.
Had left lamb braise in oven, OH cooked potatoes so was easy to feed everyone in a hurry, as I spent rather too long gabbing to people I only seem to see at funerals.
Nothing OS here to-day, slept late and had large brunch.
Cool to-day and windy but very little rain so it has been a good drying day.
Off to bed soon, tired and need to be up early to-morrow.
Hugs to all in need or want, welcome to newbies and congratulations to anyone who is celebrating

I do agree with allowing yourself to have some treats. We have one day a week where we do no work/housework/homework at all, eat junk and drink wine. Usually, this involves getting up late, finding some cereal, doing something nice all day, going out for coffee, throwing a pizza and chips in the oven for tea and then watching a film and eating chocolate.
The rest of the week is one mad rush to get everything done on time and to budget.
As for what I miss the most, it has to be the freedom to have what we wanted when we ate out. Now we have two courses only and one drink each - and we don't go out as often, either. However, we are proud to be sticking to our budget and as other posters have said, it feels good to challenge yourself to do it.0 -
Things I took for granted, being able to dye my hair before the grey would show, now I have to leave it ages before it gets done! What did you previously regard as fairly ordinary but now see as a treat?
Biscuits and other chocolatey substancesFancy fruit like strawberries was something i used to spend a lot on too, it's all apples and bananas now. Umm...occasional books and clothes, nights out with friends, days out visitin gardens and similar

Somebody that I read on the OS threads has, as part of their signature something to the effect that a small leak will sink a large ship...I agree with this philisophy and try to plug the leaks.....pre MSE I didn't keep note of what I spent, didn't ask myself if I needed/wanted something before I bought it and didn't really set a budget for food....bought every seven days, no list, regardless of full freezer and cupboards and never had a cent to spare. These are the things I have found it easiest to change, I don't ever buy new books anymore either, I don't always hit my budget for food but it makes me think and I enjoy it when I produce something for dinner that costs practically nothing. Do join us on the Daily.

Funny really, how much I used to take for granted. Never budgeted because there was always enough to spend on what I wanted. It makes me wince to think how much money I have wasted over the years due to simply not paying attention to how I spent it...
My danger areas used to be buying clothes, magazines and amazingly - lunch every day - so easy to blow say £5.70 every day in Pret's.0 -
Three years go when I was made redundant from a well paid job, I was unemployed for six months then got a job at Mr Sainsbug's for half the salary I was previously on, thinking this was a stop gap until somethings better came up.
well two and a half years later I am still there, unfortunatly up until I had my LBM I was still spending money like it was water:eek:so that is how I find my self in the situation I am in.
When I found these boards it was life saving for me, I am making slow steps, I have good days and bad days when I feel like you, but I have promised my self and my family I will clear my debts however long it takes and I will never get into debt again and who knows I mit even save some money
But I know when I have a bad day I just come on here and read some of your lovley post and tips and suddenly the sun comes out again.
