OS Daily Thread - Sunday 26th July

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Sunday 26th July! This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning OS lovelies,
Britain's last remaining World War I soldier, Harry Patch, died yesterday at the age of 111. A cliche to say but the end of an era. I just hope school children are still taught about the sacrifices made by that generation of young men.

to the thread.
FairyE - Great news about the scan, but bittersweet no doubt.
Lesley - I thought I posted that I had spoken to Tris but I think I must have dreamt it, as I checked and I haven't posted since Thurs!! :rotfl: I have been on messenger with Tristan two nights in a row now. Last night he was in a filthy mood which wasn't much fun but I am hoping today he will be happier when he turns up!
Bitsy - let us know when Hubby is going to be in, so we can all buy it and admire!
candygirl - hope you continue to feel and get better and better hon
nic1, marie, bargain and Ivy thanks for the kind thoughts
Belated
Haribo, Patchwork cat, Hermione and Sunnygirl.
Squiggly - congrats on the graduation honey
Noahs - Glad the headaches have eased a little.
Ruby - People always used to ask my mum if my blonde hair was dyed too!
Ivyleaf - good news about the op, and thanks for the thoughts
Sistercas - I hope your nephew is better soon
Well as I said up there, Tristan is out of hospital and doing Ok. I swear the man has more lives than a cat! He was officially without a heartbeat for 2 mins. He is supposed to be resting but of course is using the time to catch up on his ranches paperwork etc.
My OH is on holiday from today so we are looking forward to really getting some things done around the house and hopefully garden if the weather holds out. We advertised for someone to help with some of the bigger garden projects on Begborrowswap and have a man coming over today to have a look round and see if he is interested.
My lounge at the moment smells fabulous as I picked three stems of huge lilies and they are blooming and fragrancing the room beautifully. I am cutting the stamens off as soon as another one opens though as I know from the past they just stain everything in sight! The patio is still full of them so I have a never ending supply at present.
Food wise we have been doing well at eating from the freezer and cupboards as much as we can. We have resorted to buying granary bread though, Tescos never seems to have granary flour any more. My OH got a really cheap fresh pineapple yesterday so we had that for dessert last night.
I hope you all have a restful and peaceful Sunday. Warm gentle
to anyone who would like one.

To be frugal, you need to spend money wisely, simply spending less is not enough.

Morning chums and all who follow, didn't go to bed until almost 12 yet kept waking up every two hours or so.gave up in the end and got up,I can't just lay in bed doing nowt. no doubt by this afternoon I will be slowing down a bit.I am going to do the little bit of top-coating of some shelves that I intended doing yesterday but got sidetracked as my sis-in-law turned up in the afternoon for a cuppa and stayed longer than expected. But I enjoyed it as we had a good natter. Went to dinner at DD's last night and followed that by several games of cards with the little ones .Even the smallest little guy Mikey at five plays ,and he's very good too.
I have promised to help one of my DGS's with his holiday project for school.rather lucky really as he has to find a victorian character to write about and I have just finished a course on the Victorian Age so I will dig out some stuff for him to look through.
My eldest DD is dropping in this morning for breakfast after she has dropped her daughter off at work.So I think I will do her some scrambled eggs and toast as its her favourite.Hope everyone has a smashing day ,weather wise its bright at the moment and quite warm so I'd better water the plants before it gets too hot
have a good day chums

Good morning everyone
A slow start this morning after yesterday's fete - lots of aches after carrying around tables & boxes of books & bric a brac. Anyway, it went very well and I can't believe how lucky we were with the weather. Managed to pick up a good supply of books as well.
Today I need to get back on the OS wagon, have been a bit off course the last couple of weeks. As the weather looks doubtful I think we'll be starting indoors with lots of catch-up jobs.
Hope all is well with folk, (((hugs))) if not.

Morning everyone.
Well my list of jobs to do didn't get completed yesterday as H suggested we take the kids out as the weather was so nice! Went to local country park which was lovely, they have a fab play area for the kids so DS had a whale of a time playing on the equipment. DD just wanted me to walk her up and down some steps for an hour LOL! Shes a bit too young to appreciate even the smallest of slides etc but she enjoyed going on the swings.
So all the jobs I didn't get done yesterday need to be done today. Washing all up to date, cleared one huge basket of ironing last night with H and only one more to go
Got some lovely heads on my cauliflowersMy broccoli heads have gone a bit leggy but I guess that won't change the flavour. Courgettes have settled down and are now growing to sizes larger than my index finger (which they weren't before). Leeks are coming on a treat. I sowed some more carrots a few weeks ago (I think) and can't see any sign of them. Have moved their position in the garden in case my japanese aneome (sp?) was blocking some of the sun.
Chicken probably for tea, I could eat that til the cows come homeBack to meal planning as of tomorrow. Have been a bit slack in that area.
Off to take the kids swimming this morning and H will be doing some training for his charity cycle ride. Not sure if I've mentioned it but he's doing a 12 hour endurance ride in memory of his cousin. Next saturday would have been her 39th birthday, sadly she's been gone about 6 years now. Anyway he's nearly raised £1000 for the Anthony Nolan Trust and he's doing this solitary bike ride all on his own (sorry I am not a cyclist in any shape or form) so I am his "ground crew". He really needs to get some training in (although he's pretty fit) as I worry he'll underestimate how long 12 hours in the saddle really is.
Sorry waffled on a bit there
Diva - glad you've talked to Tristan. Sorry to hear he's low. Not suprising considering what he's just been through.
N9eav - hope the grockles don't clog up the roads too much for you
halight - glad to hear your headache is a little bit better.
Not caught up with yesterdays thread so will head off and read it now.
Hugs to all those that need them and even those that don't

Morning everyone,
Goodness, everyone seems to be up early this Sunday morning. I rolled out of bed at 8am.Made some soup & lemon sago this morning. I forgot I usually halve the recipe so guess what we'll be eating all week for pudding.
After lunch DH & I went for a walk and then I came home and hemmed his jeans. I did 2 pairs of trousers of mine while I was at it.
pawpurrs Fingers crossed it all goes well.
Haribo I suppose you got booted off the island after you pootled around it. Disgusting.
JackieO Enjoy your morning with DD. My fav is scrambled eggs too.
Tea tonight is soup, leftover sausage casserole, lemon sago & custard. Hope you all have a happy day. ByeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeDon't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -
Morning All
Fingers & everything crossed Pawpurrs
Bright sunshine here at the moment, wonder how long it will lastneed to check the weather forcast as we were hoping to go to Frinton beach tomorrow but when I last looked heavy rain was showing. Will check again later today and make a decision then. I love Frinton beach and its very cheap - you cant spend anything as there are no shops there :j
Spent a long time in the office yesterday and will still be in there today getting horrible filing jobs done but I do know how happy I will be when they are finished as they have been hanging over my head for ages.
Roast chicken for dinner, with marrow and runner beans from the garden. Also have enough strawberries to pick for dessert (must pop down the shop for some cream)
Just about to put first washing load on the line, only a little ironing so will def get that done tonight :j
Off now for a quick surf, have a great day.x0 -

Hi all and Happy Birthday to all the birthday girls yesterday!
Bitsy - well done to your DH on his bike ride. I wish him lots of luck.
At the risk of annoying you all, the weather is lovely here today. Sadly, I have to get on with paperwork - I'm working on DH's end-of-trading accounts, so that we can take them to the accountant when we come back to the UK for a couple of weeks in August. I don't want to have to post them from here!
Halight - glad your headache is easing.
DH is laying some flooring in the downstairs bathroom today; we bought it yesterday and took ages choosing it, but have gone for some pale caramel coloured laminate. It should look great when it's finished.
Dinner today is Toulouse sausages, new potatoes and salad, with plum crumble and creme fraiche for pudding. We have loads of plums at the moment, so will need to use them up over the next few days. I want to get some demi-johns to make some wine, and some cheap vodka to make plum liqueur.
Anyway, off for a coffee before I get going on the accounts.
I didn't get a chance on here yesterday because we were out for most of the day.
Hope you all have a lovely day.
