Ok a bit melodramatic but it's not really floating my boat! I've gone from thinking frugality is fun to worrying if I can make my Nigella gammon in coke last 3 meals or two,
Maybe I need to get out more.......but other than walking most things cost!

Tips please on being a jolly OS person!
  • You need to work in some treats too, obviosuly don't blow an entire months budget on them but just bits and pieces here and there..and unless you genuinely have the wolf at the door, from time to time don't stress abotu stretching your food to the absolute maximum.

It sounds cliche but for me the little things i used to take for granted have no become real treats which I look forward to and which prevent the thrift from ruling my life to the exclusion of all the fun :)
    August grocery challenge: £50
    Spent so far: £37.40 :A
  • Agree with clutterydrawer about the need for treats. I also find that the OS pleasure thread really helps - helps me focus on good free things everyday and I find myself wanting expensive treats less.

I cook the gammon in water and add the coke to vodka. All in all a much jollier experience. :D

bargainbird - Sorry you had such a bad night! spike looked so gorgeous!
halight - Glad your head is a little better.
pawpurrs - Nice to see you, good luck with the house move, I hope you can start packing soon
mioliere - Mmmm plum crumble - can I come to tea?
redruby - dying the tips sounds really good and very funky and trendy too
Ivyleaf - take it easy and drink plenty of water, hopefully it is just a cold.

Have another lily open in the lounge - cream with a deep deep pink centre - so gorgeous!

Reason for posting - we were given todays News of the world magazine and there is a voucher in there for a free Nails inc nail varnish (worth £10.50) but we do not have a salon/shop this far out in the sticks! So if anyone wants it, please message me and we will send it out first class. It has to be used by Tuesday so it will be all dependant on the royal mail getting it there in the a.m so you can get to the salon by closing but I am willing to try it if you are!!

To be frugal, you need to spend money wisely, simply spending less is not enough.
If you can't handle me at my worst then you don't deserve me at my best...

I'm with H-J on that (we will have to stop agreeing H-J), but to be honest it all depends on your budget. If you are struggling to make ends meet then yes stretch it to as many meals as possible, but remembering that OS isn't just about saving money, but cooking from scratch and knowing what is in your food. You will be saving anyway by cooking yourself rather than buying pre-packed food.

Don't worry about it, that will not change it, just portion it to what you can afford -v- acceptable meal size.

I've been MIA a little this week. Was my birthday Thursday, so went to Alton Towers and had a fabulous day. Got there in time for the extra hour that passholders get (Thanks to Mr Tesco for those!) and did some rides, then went on Nemesis, Air twice in a row, then all the smaller rides. Longest we queued all day was about 20 minutes, I was gobsmacked. Took a picnic, so all in all a cheap day out and a lovely way to spend my birthday.

Friday and Saturday night I worked night shift, so my sleeping and eating has been all over the place. Was dealing with a sexual assault this morning, so finished 2 and a half hours late.

Kids are away with their Dad for 10 days, and due to night shifts the house looks like a bomb has hit it. Plan for the next few days is to get some serious housework done! Have got 3 binbags full of clothes to take to the clothes recycling bins at tescos, and no doubt I will fill some more bags full of junk from the kids rooms. At least if I do it when they're not here they probably won't miss it - does anyone else have children that seem to want to hoarde every single scrap piece of paper, broken toys, and general rubbish?

MSD - am glad to hear that tristan is ok.

Hope everyone else is well, need to go and have a catch up on here to see what I've missed!

Make OS part of your life, not your whole life. Have some treats and some frugal nights......then the frugal nights will be fun too. Bake HM cakes etc as treats...can be cheap and yummy.
