We eat a lot of cress so I picked up a pack of seeds in Woolies for 60p yesterday. Luckily I read the back first & it says to keep them on a sunny window sill......something our house doesn't have:o
Althought without sills, we can't clutter up the window with those bits that you "just put it there so I remember to do it"....but means I can't propogate either:eek: ...oooh err missus:rotfl:Full time Carer for Mum; harassed mother of three;loving & loved by two 4-legged babies.

Have you got a side board or table near a sunny window???working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
The most accessable clear surface to a window is kept for when our Iggie comes out to play--she adores laying in the natural sunlight:p And seeing as she has the lion's share of the cress anyway, would probably eat the crop if asked to share the space:D
I know it wouldn't be too difficult to move a few dishes of cress around, but it's the remembering to move them from out of her reach in the first place that seems a faff:o
I'm going to have to rearrange other furniture around anyways, so maybe I could start a little nursery for baby plants in my bedroom...that's the only other room that gets decent lightFull time Carer for Mum; harassed mother of three;loving & loved by two 4-legged babies.

Nodwah, thanks. We have been here a week nearly, had the internet connected after 3 days. Still trying to climatise very hot here as expected. Definitely want to start growing my own salad stuff, very expensive over here and not the quality we are used to.Mortgage

I think the birds must have snaffled my baby lekkusis  Not much happening with the toms either
....told you I was a real Black Thumb where viable plant life is concerned:o
If I were to call it quits for this season, can I use the grow bags again next year for other crops or just sprinkle them over the garden & start again from new?
Are there any 'winter' crops that can be grown in grow bags....I'm kinda guessing this type of veg needs a deeper root space tho. Oh WHY did I not take more interest when I helped out my grandads with their veggie patches:wall:Full time Carer for Mum; harassed mother of three;loving & loved by two 4-legged babies.

Same question as BigMummaF......
When i come back from my holiday on August 7th, I'd like to think about putting some veg in containers to grow for the winter. Any advice about what grows well? I was thinking leeks might be ok if I can get some already started off. Anything else?

I have a yard only, no garden unfortunately. I also don't have access to a car to get to an allotment (if any where actually available in my area). Having said that, I do worry about the food I eat. Is there anything I could grow in a tub in my back yard?
I'd love to grow stuff however, I'm not sure there is anything that I could actually grow.Reduction in daily mortgage interest since October 23 (new mortgage) - £2.36 July 25

hi twinklie. this is my 1st post so hello!
i work in a garden centre and there are loads of things you could grow in a tiny space. the only trouble is the time of year now. it is a bit late to start from scratch for stuff like tomatos and peppers and the like. you could very easily get going on some fast growing mixed lettuce seeds though and they are really easy too. you could go and buy a few different veg plants from your garden centre but i find it gets quite expensive that way.
remember, you can grow anything in a pot as long as it's big enough!0
