    Hi.
I grew everything in pots/containers last year, and it was fine.
Deep pots - onions [grow all year round, just harvesting those sown in October last year], ditto carrots [grow half and half in the deepest post you can, helps with the dreaded carrot fly.
medium pots - brocolli, esp purple sprouting; tomatoes
low wide containers, courgettes, cucumbers, lettuce, spinach.

currently have mixed and matched this year - eg summer vege box consists of a couple of toms, some french beans and peas [all will climb up a couple of canes that are in there], and a few onions - they are all in one of those plastic storage containers and do marvelously.
Same with onions, carrots with a few corianders in for good measure
Just throw some seeds together, and sprinkle them over the top [not too many, you can only grow so much in the space], cover with plastic or the lid until they sprout and away you go

Thompson and Morgan have seeds half price until 14th June at the moment on their website https://www.thompson-morgan.com.

It is too late to plant most hings but you can grow successional crops such as carrots, lettuce (cut and come again works well in pots), radishes, spinach and chard, runner and french beans, peas. Get them in now esp the beans and you will have no problems getting good crops. Dwarf beans are good because they need less support.
    3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

Hello! I just wanted to thank everyone, I feel very accomplished :D

Went to Wilko's today and the seeds were half-price as you said so I've bought and planted as suggested. I got some dwarf french beans, some little gem lettuce and a packet of mixed leaf lettuce which I intend to use as "cut and come again", bush courgettes and as an experiment some globe beetroot (I love beetroot!) They didn't have any plants unfortunately so haven't been able to get hold of any tomatoes or strawberries but nevermind. Let's just hope I don't kill them now.. lol

I don't know if you will feel the same but I am addicted to growing from seed rather than buying the plant as I can't wait to see it grow after I have sowed it. Just wish my greenhouse was bigger to house all my seedlings :rotfl:

Lynseydee - you're a kindred spirit, I get a real buzz from growing from seed but also get a bit emotional when they don't flourish, I take it personally - daft really.

Hi MiniF I feel exactly the same way especially as I only really started out in the garden last year after my hubby bought me a greenhouse for my birthday. Hopefully the weather will stay nice today so I can get some of my seedlings potted up ready to grow some more things.

    Hi
Try the internet for seeds - i put carrots in every month of the year, to get a year round supply. Just obtained 365 day/year round carrot pack from Victoriana Garden through internet - 1000 seeds - should keep me quite for a few years or so! and £2.60. Excellent service as well.
