Why are solicitors SO SLOW !

Mine were so bad that I am reporting them to the SRA.
I will also write a letter (again!) to the senior partner asking if he really think it's fair that we should pay the full price quoted at the beginning.
They were so unprofessional and slow that 16 weeks after we instructed them we're still waiting for exchange. And it is a very straight forward sale/purchase with NO problems whatsoever (apart from mu solicitor).
Sorry, hijacked your thread to have a rant as well ...
Keep ringing and emailing them and if you have no success write to the Senior partner to complain.
Good luck!!!

Oh heck I DO FEEL FOR YOU.
Im on week 10 and starting to get a little miffed.
Neither me nor the buyer are in a chain.
Im not selling to move on its just a property Im not wanting to keep.
No mortgage for me to wind up. Fully paid up.
The mortgage survey took ages to be set up which caused an issue with the buyers mortgage having to be signed up again as it kind of timed out {best way I can put it}
Hope u feel better after your rant... i do...lol
What delayed your solicitors ? If you dont mind me asking ?0 -
What is a reasonable time for them to work too? I instructed them on Monday and have had the paperwork too fill out, thru the post on Wednesday.
Its a lot to fill too! wouldnt it be nice if they came round and did it themselves.
How long is too long?0 -
They are not all slow. I've used one before who says and does - get to exchange within a week, subject to there being no complications and straight forward. Admittedly this is on a cash purchase with no chain, etc. This solicitor has told me- no more than 4 hours work all told, subject to no complications. He dosen't take any prisoners either. Hes a very abrupt guy. But he gets the job done0

if the property is a leasehold property then this does take longer than freehold - having to read old leases and correspond back and forth with the other side can take up weeks and weeks0

Sounds like my Guy..... No joke of a lie he responds to emails in under a minute at all times, even weekends, they are answered within a couple of hours!Pawpurrs x0 -
Shouldn't we be plugging the solicitors that are doing a good job? They seem few and far between.0

Problem is as good as my guy is he is slowed down by the incompetence of my buyers soliceter who fails to hand over the paperwork for weeks at a time!Pawpurrs x0

Offer accepted.
Survey done.
Draft Contracts drawn up.............
Now im just waiting and its annoying the heck out of me.
Solicitors are sooooooooo slow !
Feel like ringing the buyers and my solicitors and put a rocket up their a$$....... lol.
Rant over !
:rotfl:
Remember the other party may want to slow things time and not be responding to their solicitor promptly.
If speed is of the essence and both parties proactively push things along then it shouldn't take long.
Remember also that your solicitor is there to protect you.0 -

Usually the other sides solicitors would NOT communicate with you directly but sometimes they may so you could try.
But first better to get the EA to contact them. That is the EA's role to check progress or lack of progress and intervene to sort matters out.A retired senior partner, in own agency, with 40 years experience in property sales & new build. A bold move would to hint about putting the property back on the market. May kick start the buyer's solicitor or at least open other avenues of selling your home.
Why not speak to the buyer to join forces to push through the sale.0
