In praise of... Egg Money Manager

Ok, so Egg's savings accounts may not be very good (haven't checked actually) but their Money Manager (EMM) is worth plugging. I started a Cash ISA with them last year and tried the EMM.

It works primarily with Internet Explorer and lets you see balances of most accounts which you have Internet access too. e.g. credit card, paypal, current accounts, isas etc.

If you use Firefox then you need IEtab:-
http://ietab.mozdev.org/
And use this bookmark to start Egg:-
chrome://ietab/content/reloaded.html?url=https://new.egg.com/security/customer/logon?URI=https://new.egg.com/customer/youraccounts

Even more impressive is the support for EMM. I had a problem showing an Equity ISA balance and they've fixed it within 2 weeks.

I know of no other online bank/institution that provides this sort of tool but its a cracker. I also recommend Roboform for auto-filling web page logons. Although EMM doesn't send passwords to Egg (it keeps them on your PC) I haven't looked to much into Roboform's security. That's my next job.

The company who does it have their own one as well. Can't remeber what its called though.

The only reason I have IE on my PC is for Egg. Too lazy to put IE tab on FF :)

I think its eWise. Cannot see that they do a personal "at home" version. But it looks like First Direct also uses the same software.

I can't say I'm terribly impressed with EMM. I find that it only works with around 50% of my accounts, despite the fact that they say it should work with almost all of them.

I used EMM for a while until I was introduced to First Direct Internet Banking+ (free) which is better as it allows you to sort the accounts into various sections and even add in some other data - such as house, car, etc...

Don't know how many "50% of your accounts" equates too but if you have the time it would be worth talking to Egg about it.

I love Egg money manager! Saves me having to remember all those different log ins and passwords. It's caught me out though when my computer 'died' and took all the info with it!

Only problem is it doesn't seem to work in Google Chrome :(

These don't look current; neither demos work; copyright 2003 etc (not your fault).

Some people expect too much! Not the faint-hearted, but the following thread emulates IE in Chrome... Good Luck!

I find it works with all my accounts almost all of the time and I manage a large number of accounts. Although it lacks many obvious features its still extremely useful. If there is a problem I contact egg and they reply within 2 days. It can however take a few weeks to sort out which is a bit frustrating.

As an example I tried adding Newcastle Building Society last week but it didn't work, sent email and they replied that Newcastle had changed their login process and that they are working on it. I expect it will be fixed within a couple of weeks.
