ASDA Smartprice - what's good, whats not!

I've recently started shopping online with ASDA, owing to continuing issues with Mr T's and their mad substitions (are the people they pay to do the online shopping even awake?) so i'd like to know, what smartprice things are a bargain, and which are not so great.

I know the loo rolls are ok, and the spaghetti numbers (tinned)

Depends on personal taste really. Personally, I like ADSA SmartPrice frozen beef mince. :) It's super cheap and makes really good spaghetti bolognaise !

the only things we dont like are the frozen meals/pizza etc. the good thing about ordering smart price goods online is that they substitute with the next level up if its out of stock and its at the same price !

    • whoops!! sealed pot opened!!! for holiday stuff, £360, an i BLEW it:D
  • we get all the storecupboard stuff (beans, spaghetti, kidney beans, rice, sauces, tin toms etc) from SP and loo rolls, potatoes, pretty much everything! No problems personally with anything and potatoes are great value £1.36 for 5kg bag on last delivery yesterday and are fine.
I dont buy fresh stuff online really just the heavy stuff but when ive got it in the shop like their apples and oranges they are fine.

I'm trying to think of things i've bought...

    Good stuff
    • Their kitchen roll (good for me who is clumsy with drinks)
    • Tinned sweetcorn (I only buy the cheapest or Lidl's as it all tastes the same to me)
    • Kidney beans (as above, once they're in a chilli, they could be any old bean)
    • I bought one of their SP chickens earlier this week and that was fine (I don't really buy into all the organic/free range malarky)
    • Frozen peas
    • Noodles (10p ish) and I use them for stirfry (without the flavouring)
    • Peanuts...taste like any other peanuts
    • Small cheesecakes - had one last week and that was nice
    • Eggs
    • Mild cheese (i'm not keen on strong cheese, so this is ideal for me)
    Bad stuff
    • I got some of their yoghurts this week and they're edible, but they have a strange gluey consistency.
Can't think of anything else at the moment. I suppose it's just a case of trying things and seeing what they're like.
    Grocery challenge - Nov: £52/£100
  • Got lots of basics items on last shop and they were all fine. I find the beans really good value, used to be that if you bought value beans it was all sauce and far less beans than other tins, but haven't found this to be the case. I find it really surprising that stores own brands (level up from basics) are averaging at about 50 p a can, just seems such a lot.

Anyway, main thing I found not to be good was the Salt + Vinegar sticks in the maize snacks 12 pack. However, the cheese puffs and onion rings were great, and it's like 55p for the pack. Oh and the smart price double strength diluting juice (apple and blackcurrant) was really not nice at all.

    Hi Delain :)

I've tried the smart price eggs, chicken & frozen minced beef. They are good. Other than that, I don't think I've tried anything else. Take a look at this website and see if it helps. I've entered Smart Price as keywords to search and ticked ASDA as the supermarket. Then sort the list according to score.

    http://www.supermarketownbrandguide.co.uk/search.php?SearchString=smart+price&Search.x=35&Search.y=32&score=&price=0&pricevalue=0.00&asda=1

  • Good:

    Juices
Tinned carrots, peas, kidney beans etc.
    Pasta
    Spagetti
Instant Mash Powder (I hate Smash, but this is lovely!)
    All the Biscuits
    Cider (£1.30 for 2lt... 4.2% lovely)
Sausages (prefer the Sainsburys ones myself though, Asda ones are a little squishy)
Curry Sauce (at 4p and is LOVELY!!!)
    brown sauce
    bolognese sauce
    some more I cannot remember...

    Bad:

Shaving Foam & Razors (avoid both of these! they certainly do not do the job)
Other than that, not many bad items that I've tried, I tend to prefer smart price stuff as its generally healthier for you (with exception to meat) - as less colouring, additives etc.
