Does it? it is being reported that it has shrunk at a "slowing rate"

I think the vast majority of people will not really recognise any significance.

It is bad news for anyone out of work or looking dodgy at the moment, but the reality of 0.8% or 0.3% would have still been reported the same.

"Britain is still in recession but the pace is shrinking"
The only thing I entertained yesterday was that if it was positive was that the news would be

    "Britain is out of recession"

You should of informed us yesterday you expected it.;)

No I would prefer to be out of recession and gowing all be it slowley.

But as a tax payer I would have thought that was a sensible thing to want to happen.

in reality a 0.1% growth is nothing but any growth is better than decline surely?

    no it wouldn't!

-0.3 would have been reported as 'in line with expectations'

-0.8 is being reported as 'much worse than expectations'

    BBC have shifted message from "slowing rate" to;

    UK economy continues to contract

The UK economy contracted 0.8% between April and June, more than double the figure economists had expected.

Whilst it is obviously good for GDP to be heading in the right direction, and a big jump up from -2.4% looks impressive, it might be an idea to bear in mind that -0.8% is worse than the 2nd worst quarter of the 1990s recession, after which it took 3 more quarters to go positive.

I believe the elements that make up GDP can be slow to react, i.e. re-tooling, taking factories out of mothballs, etc, so as some signs, i.e. Retail figures (although that might only be summer bounce), start to encourage Co's to re-enter/upscale in their markets, it will take them some time to get the conveyor belts spinning up, and may depend upon the availability of funds from banks for backing...which could act as a brake on otherwise "normal" recession recovery.

I would have given you some credit today if you had:T,
I would have thought you had over egged it yesterday but at least it would have given you credence today rather than saying "I thought that":)

I am sure Nostradamus could of been a bit more open with his predictions if he reported on them after they happened:)

I expect worse than -0.2%. The drops in Manufacturing orders will overcome the gains from retail.

    -0.4%+

    Cheers Labour.

    Told you so.
