I had it happen to my first account, opened last Thursday. Deposited a tenner using faster payments from NatWest and all looked well, so followed it with a grand which also showed up OK. I then opened a second account but made no deposit. Next morning, Friday, both accounts had switched to the Reward name and both were empty. Having seen about this on here I wasn't overly concerned and deposited a fiver into the second account.
The following morning, yesterday, both accounts showed with the correct balances so I transferred just over a grand from No1 to No2 and the balances have remained correct since then. Maybe the "disappearing act" is part of the account renaming process from Current to Reward Current?

Not sure if I'll get the reward on both accounts since the No2 wasn't credited until Saturday but what the heck, one free fiver's not bad for a few day's deposit ;-)

Just wish the No3 account had been accepted automatically, but that's pending "further checks" :-(
Hopefully that'll get sorted early next week and I can get the appropriate transfers and standing orders set up so it all works fine for September,

Don't recall it happening with my 3 Reward accounts earlier this year. Maybe that's because I was an existing customer (current and savings accounts) and funded with internal transfers?

Never happened to me a number of months ago either and I was a new customer.
  • Hi guys, just got a quick question I was hoping you could help with.

I managed to open 2 reward accounts last week but was refused a 2rd, could this be because I also have a graduate account that is acting as the '3rd account'?

Also, can I use the overdraft on my grad account as the £1000 funding or does it have to be external funding?

    Cheers

At the moment, it can be funded internally with your overdraft. However, it is only a matter of time before Halifax become wise to this, so I make an effort to have money coming accounts with other institutions. Barclays accounts seem pretty happy with large faster payments

Thanks for the info. What's the faster payments limit out of halifax, never seems to be consistent for me!

Also, is the £1000 per calendar month, opened my accounts on around the 20th, so do I wait until after 20th Sep this month?

£1K per transaction at the moment, but multiple £1K transactions to the same destination on the same day seem to be OK up to a point. Some people have reported their access to FPs was removed for a while if they exceeded an unknown threshold, but I've done six £1,000 FPs today, with 4 of them going to the same destination account, without a hitch.

I applied for one Thursday morning and sent a small amount across first, then £1000 across by faster payments Thursday evening, then applied for a second a/c. The £1000 had disappeared by Friday morning so I didn't put anything in the 2nd a/c until I could see the money back in the first a/c. It was there Saturday morning so I transferred it to the 2nd a/c. Both accounts had the £5 reward payment showing up this morning - wasn't sure if the 2nd a/c would get it as the transfer wasn't a working day, but it did.

I did try for a third a/c but it was declined :-(
