Very minor, but still, where's Bertie Bassett gone?

I very rarely eat sweets, but my favourite ones, by far, are Liquorice Allsorts.
When I went into tesco today, I saw they had Bassett's on sale at 2 for £2. I dont know if this is a good price, but I love them, so I bought 4 - 2 for me, 2 for o/h.
My favourite one is the Bertie sweet himself, so when I opened my first pack, I rummaged for him and found that he was missing. You usually get one, sometimes 2 in a pack.
O/h looked in his, and again, no Bertie.
I opened the other 2, just to check, and they seemed to be missing Bertie, too!
He's still listed on the bags, but he's not there!
I know it's a very little thing, but I was looking forward to eating him (that sounded wrong...) and was wondering if anybody else has taken advantage of the offer and lacked Bertie. He's the only thing Bassets have got going for them over the cheap white label equivalent.
Perhaps Tesco's selling them off because they're faulty batches? I'm not going to do anything about it, but I am curious if anybody else is missing the mascot.

OK, own up; who put that 'joke' on the article...!!:D"Part P" is not, and has never been, an accredited electrical qualification. It is a Building Regulation. No one can be "Part P qualified."

he's on strike pending a pay review. you'll find him with the bus drivers up herewhen the first cup of coffee tastes like washing up she knows she's losing it0

No Berties in the bag we bought last week either. I'd forgotten about him, prefer the blue bobbly ones but there weren't any of those either
. Do the Berties only come in the boxes perhaps?

Hmmmm, I think in order to get to the bottom of this mystery someone should contact Cadburys directly http://www.cadbury.co.uk/contact/Pages/ContactUs.aspx (link to online form)
Please post their reply - I'd be interested to know"Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?" (Douglas Adams)0
