I agree with Lewt, AA helps millions of people. It's not for everyone but it's worth trying it to find out if it's for you. I'm not sure if you've tried AA Jayne?

With alcohol on the scene it's impossible to sort out what's affecting what, it is such a depressant in itself. Plus it causes anxiety, paranoia, phobias etc...... My Doctor told me it's the worst addiction to beat, worse than heroin even cos of the mental and emotional grip it gets.

The help is there for you Rose, if and when you are ready for it
That's life, it's just the way it is :)

I took my daughter to London for the weekend and caught a few AA meetings. Since booking, my youngest got a Sat job at a local florist and didn`t want to let them down. So, she came back by herself on Friday night. The bus we caught clearly said Victoria on the front, but the driver changed his mind and threw us all off at Picadilly Circus. Had to wait ages and then run like hell and just got the coach by a minute or so. As I walked away I thought "God I need a drink". Really caught me by surprise as I haven`t thought that for years. Went to another meeting instead. I know that one drink is,and always will be, impossible for me.
When DD got to work she was told that the florist had gone bust and had to go back home.
  • Fair enough Lewt but Rose is suffering from an incident in her life that she needs help with. What i meant is that needs to be tackled first and foremost before she can even begin looking at her problem with drink. I dont know if AA could help her thats all i meant. Primarily she needs to resolve the first issue before she can tackle the second. She is drinking because she is unhappy, she needs to tackle the event that led to the unhappiness. Hope i am making sense here:) probably not:)
  • Not everybody who picks up a drink because they are unhappy is an alcoholic. They are just trying to numb a pain. What it is tho is a slippery slope that can lead to a lot of trouble.
  • i dont agree habibi, my phobia`s were already in place before i started drinking. The drinking helped me overcome them. I used drink to give me confidence. The numbness it gave me also helped mask the pain. The pain i was feeling was already there, way before drink. I do agree totally that drink is a depressant.

jayne it seems you are doing others thinking for them, i had all the problems alot of people state here before i drank too. its called the illness of alcoholism. i drank because i was not comftable in my own skin. and other reasons which i posted yesterday. i have learnt this in AA. and through talking to other recovering alcoholics. i have found that when i tackled the drinking problem using the 12 steps of AA that i can deal with all other things in my life. its a program for living not just for stopping drinking. it reallt does work i would never have belived it when i was still drinking either. but trust me the program works if you have had enough of feeling the way you do rose, or anyone else.

im not going to go into the other thread as i dont really want to. i do belive that there are a couple of threads on this site that have people that would benifit from he 12 steps. it works with any thing just google anonymous meeting and see how many different things come up.

i would also like to say again what brodev posted the other day i would not ague about what had started the house fire untill i had got out of it. if you know what i mean?

I hope your doing ok jayne i havent seen you post about wanting to stop drinking for ages. i hope things are going ok for you. remember you have to be honest with yourself in order to be able to start to beat this thing.

i know this look like im digging you out however i thought it needed to be said. ;)

LOL at the bus driver changing his mind and chucking you off at the wrong place, its great being able to deal with that sort of thing today though aint it mate? and the drink thought coming in, it a cunning baffeling and powerfull thing this alcoholism. i like to add patence to that also.

when i was out there and if something like that had happened i would have kicked off, embrssed how was with me, broke some thing on the way out, and slagged the bus company off for years to come. what head trouble that would have been. today i would have just said the serinty prayer and got to a meeting. i think thats a miracle in itself.

  • i am not doing anyones thinking for them at all Lewt. I spoke about my phobias, my problems not yours or anyone elses. And i certainly know myself better than anyone else. When i said it was perhaps not a good idea for Rose to attend AA, there was a reason behind that. I mentioned you looking at the other boards as i didnt want to explain that reason. Rose has mentioned it on there.

I dont want to share anything else at the moment, including my drinking. I have had an incredibly tough weekend and last few days, this was immensley personal and very painful. But i would like to say again i dont do anyones thinking for them, i do however care and try to help out when i can.

I dont want to mention AA again except to say i do not think it is helping my sister i have never heard her so close to the edge.

Very pleased for you lewt about the job, I like being wrong sometimes :)

I don't see how you can be an alcoholic before you drank though, I know what you've said and I don't believe it. Not feeling right about yourself, doesn't make you an alcoholic, it makes you vunerable and human. And if thats what AA teach, its one more reason for me not to go there.
