Well I picked my name when I was drunk.......... don't really want to change it now, wouldn't be me.
How long were you trying to completely stop before you managed?

Thanks for posting, look in whenever you like please, I think people like you have as much relavance here as others still struggling day to day. I have to admit, posting on this thread takes up almost all of my spare time, so posting on another would be a bit hard, but I'll have a look.

I've managed today with out drinking and smoking - and even went to the pub lol :D Can't say I wasn't a bit tempted to have one, but it never is one is it, so I had an apple juice.

Hows everyone doing? Did ya miss me?

  • feelinggood you are doing great by the sound of it!
many many times i stopped- im your classic recidivist. i would manage a week feeling like death and then the gremlin on my shoulder would fight back and no, one is never enough, and one always hurt me. i went to aa first when i was about 20- now im 37 (omg). i never drank sensibly and it never crept up on me like a lot of people. i'm sure its been said on here lots: but never stop giving up. because you will get there. and its a lot better here now. and take whatever help comes your way. this thread for example- i never knew it was here. thank you i will visit again. maybe i will get to know some people here. i like that thought.

Ok Ok I admit I had to look it up

recidivist - someone who is repeatedly arrested for criminal behavior (especially for the same criminal behavior)

    I'm a bit worried now.................

  • Thank you mramoeba :)
I'm on a young 'un, but I am so glad I decided to tackle this now, rather than wait and see what happened.
I've actually felt alot better since I made the descision, its like a weight off my shoulders.
Yes, I've got cravings to deal with, but I don't have to worry about things anymore. One day at a time, and I don't have to worry about where my next drink is coming from, how I can sneak another vodka in my glass, what state I might wake up in. This is the right path for me, I can tell :)
Well done on your journey so far, and good luck with the future :)
It would be lovely if you stuck around, its a great bunch of people here :)

OH, you mean the other recidivist...............

recidivist - someone who lapses into previous undesirable patterns of behavior

That sounds more like it. So you were trying to give it up for about 15 years? Thats a long time.

Pub wasn't a problem - only went in for an hour or so to warm up, blooming cold today. The person I was with knows the score, so that wasn't a big deal - had I said I thought I'd be tempted, we wouldn't have gone in.

Coping - honestly, I am just happy. I don't know what it is, but something has clicked in to place, this just feels right - everything is falling in to place, and I know its my time to tackle this problem - hard to explain without going all relgiously and talking about wu-wei and all that lol. Don't think you'd appreciate that!

    How was the smoking today?
