Does anyone have an inclination as to what the buying rules of the preferential discounted rate shares might be ?
I know and have read about the 1 free share for every 20, if you hold for a year, but is there likely to be a holding period for your entitled shares in order to be allowed to buy more at the discounted rate ?
For what its worth, my opinion on the 1 for 20 is that it isnt that good, as its a 5% return if the share price does nothing, and you could get that in an ISA for no risk.0 -

But you are forgetting to add any dividend payments which will give a much better return0 -
ReportInvestor wrote:Hi lab,
Of course people are linking windfalls and shortfalls. The one can hopefully help with the other, if only partially.
Unfortunately the shortfall size has no direct bearing on how windfalls are calculated by the appointed actuary.
It's inevitable really that people make the link, even if as you say there isn't a tangible one. I suppose the only consolation (if it is one at all) for the many people like lab is that if they're had their pot with any other of the many UK insurers facing shortfalls, they wouldn't have a hope of making a penny up of them - the float here at least gets a little back but as I say, it is probably very scant consolation.0 -
Do they send out the letters in any sort of order or just when your figures are completed??I've not been notified yet and reading this forum it seems that everyone else has.0

When I phoned(in slight panic) to ask if/when I would get mine I was told it had been issued and was in the post. So hopefully tomorrow. Some people will not get their packs until the end of the week.My weight loss following Doktor Dahlqvist' Dietary Program

Well I think I've solved the mystery of why my share allocation was a bit odd compared to others, ReportInvestor.
I've been searching though all paperwork today as I might be selling my endowments (think I'll have to ask for advice on the M&E board on that though, in case I make a stupid mistake), and I found stuff from when the endowment started - I was on a low start plan for the first year so wasnt contributing the full £50.20 throughout
Im really sorry about that slip up, but at least it proves that your method definitely works.0 -
I received 258 shares in total based on a group pension policy started in August 1997, policy worth 50K+.
Bit disappointed with that, but it might have something to do with having to invest in a different personal pension fund for five years of that time, although the contracted-out payments were still going to the SL pension however. It's also likely that only part of the policy is invested in WP.0 -
Thanks for that useful correction, bobber. It may prompt others to double check their figures or if they had a low cost endowment where they paid less in the early years.
We now have some limited evidence that variable windfalls of over 30% of contributions are being paid to 25 year endowment policyholders who started 1982-84.
