Having spent 17 years of my lift in catering, many of which were in 4 and 5 star hotels, one thing I have learnt is NEVER send a meal back!!!
Trust me you get more than you bargained for when you get your new meal!
I have seen pubic hairs added to meals, steaks wiped on chefs bums, bodily fluids added, food stamped on, food wiped across a greasy canopy, it makes me sick just thinking about it now!
Just make simple note to self Never to Return, trust me your In - Laws probably had a lucky escape.0 -

I would rather not eat out then if you have to eat the crap they put in front of you or get that sort of treatment

Correct, the best thing to do is pay the bill, leave politely, if they ask if anything is wrong tell them you have a family emergency come up..
Get home ring the EHO, a catering establishment hates nothing more than an unvisited EHO officer, especially if they turn up on a Monday morning, after a busy weekend service the kitchen is usually not up to scratch and all the food that is no longer usuable (3 day limit on fresh goods), has not yet been thrown.
Revenge is best served cold by an EHO officer!0 -
My cousin worked at the Memphis Belle in Warrington last year they are well known for robbing people as they didn't pay him half of his wages! He is only 17, so I wouldn't put it past them to cause this sort of trouble. I agree if they didn't eat any of the meal then they shouldn't have to pay for it.

Incorrect. The legal position is this...
You have requested goods (the food) and a service (the preparation of that food etc).
The service was not of a reasonable standard, therefore you are not obliged to pay for that service. As a result of the lack of skill and care excercised in preparing the meal, the goods were not of a reasonable standard and not consumed. Therefore you are not obliged to pay for the goods.
Had the food been consumed, then you would be liable for the market value of the ingredients (NOT the price on the menu, as this includes a charge for the service).
It would have been advisable to have left your name and address, as a clear sign that there was no criminal intent.
It is highly unlikely that the police will be in the slightest bit interested, as no criminal offence has been committed.
The advice from the police to pay, is absolute tosh.
Write to the establishment. State that the food was not prepared to a reasonable standard and as a result you will not pay for it.0 -

Trouble is, mean pub landlord (or anyone, for that matter) is having a go at you, the last thing you want to do is hand over your name and address, isn't it...phlogeston wrote: »The advice from the police to pay, is absolute tosh.0 -
Hi thanks for replies
Trading Standards advised them to pay or if they don't the pub could take them to court
I would be inclined to go to court to see what they thought of the matter
I'm not sure what they have decided to do
Just pay it probably and put it behind them0 -
What they SHOULD have done was pay for the meal, then write to the restaurant, stating how disappointed they were with the food. They should also write them a bad review, as reputation is everything to a restaurant.
You can't just say you don't like it and walk out without paying - that's theft! They really need to pay for the meal.
But they didn't eat the meal, why should they have paid for it, and how is that theftAccept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0
