Hums60, you have yet to answer the importnant question: What was wrong with the steak?!?!
Ok, using common sense, I'm guessing they were too well cooked, as if they were undercooked, the chef would have taken them back to the kitchen and put them back in the pan...
But "Medium Rare" is subjective. In some restaurants I've seen it with no pink bits, in others it's been quite pink, so it would be quite difficult to reject the steak on this basis.
I eat my steak blue, but order rare in France as their rare is more like the English equivalent of blue!
What they SHOULD have done was pay for the meal, then write to the restaurant, stating how disappointed they were with the food. They should also write them a bad review, as reputation is everything to a restaurant.
You can't just say you don't like it and walk out without paying - that's theft! They really need to pay for the meal.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Did the Police call Trading Standards,or was it your in laws?0

I go to a pub each month with a group of friends and treat myself to a meal. I found a piece of plastic and stopped eating and informed the manager what I had found. He asked if I would like a free desert, which I declined, not wanting to eat anything else from them that night. He took the cost of my meal off the bill and offered me a free meal on my next visit, should I decide to return, and when I went back they honoured that offer fully and the meal was fantastic and I made sure they knew that and I'd see them as usual next month. I'm not sure why this couple were reacted to by calling the police as no-one has ever threatened me in that way over a food complaint."Click the pennies. Collect the pounds."0

...I should add these kind of disputes should always try to be resolved there and then when they happen so that both parties are happy with the outcome."Click the pennies. Collect the pounds."0

Medium rare is only a little subjective. It's quite well defined...Colour, temperature and (iirc) the amount of time it takes for the flesh to bounce back when poked. Anyway. by any definition, if I got a medium rare steak with "no pink bits", that would be going straight back.
Wiki says medium rare should " have a fully red, warm center".You can't just say you don't like it and walk out without paying - that's theft! They really need to pay for the meal.
If you don't take anything, how's that theft?0 -
Just to add, the only problem I've ever had of this type is at, probably, our favourite restaurant. Basically, the meal they provided my gf with wasn't the one she ordered - but it was so close, we didn't notice - had the same ingredients as the one described on the menu...but the one she got was a "special" with a couple of extra fancy bits and £5 extra. Anyway, it took quite some discussion to explain to the waitress and the manager that I wasn't happy to pay for food I hadn't ordered, as it was the waitresses mistake. Eventually it was ironed out and the manager took the whole cost of the meal off the bill. I felt pretty bad about it, because I only wanted the difference removed, but I decided that arguing with them more just wasn't worth the hassle0

There is (used to be?) an offence of obtaining goods or services by deception. Not saying this applies here though.
Agree with what Pinkshoes says about France.0 -
Ok Guys
The place in question is the Memphis Belle in Warrington
Please look at trip advisor for other comments

My In Laws are not serial complainers
If they were i wouldn't of even posted about it
To clarify as to not be vague
The meal was brought out with chips and mushrooms burnt
The steak was over cooked a lot
The overall presentation of the meal was a discrace
Maybe they should of left their name and address
But they are not used to this kind of situation and don't know the propper procedure
If someone had said to me pay for that or i will call the police
I would of laughed at them and demanded they call the police right there and then
But that's me
They were not trying to obtain anything by fraud
Because they didn't end up with anything
So how can they be accused of fraud0 -
Just to add
Theft you actually have to have stolen something
How can it be theft for something you never had
????????????????????????????????0
