Quick question : Do Dell PCs ship with a copy of the operating system on CD (OEM version), or is operating system only supplied pre-installed on the hard disc?

    TIA

Comes with a restore CD which will image your PC back to the way it was when it was shipped.

It does NOT come with a seperate CD for installing Windows XP. One of Micro$oft's ways for reducing piracy I'm afraid.

I understand it is possible to get the Windoze XP CD without all the pre-installed junk on it.
I e-mailed Dell and asked for mine, which they have said is now in the post. I'll let you know when/if it turns up.
Incidentally, there is a utility out there that a guy has written specifically to rid the average Dell of all this 'bonus' software.
  • Eexcuse my ignorance but will I need a modem/router to set this up on an existing broadband line?

That may be because the offer ended on 19/04/06 (see this post in another forum - you can see the spec as well).

Go to the Dell UK homepage & look for the Dell Dimension 1100 to see how much it is now. I would've posted a direct link but my PC/browsers will not display any Dell webpage whatsoever (frequent occurrence!). G
